    Folks still mis-understand " power "-----A vehicle on a level road would not need 180 HP to move at 50 MPH.----But a boat sure does.-----I would want some sort of system to separate a battery from the boat in case of an incident.

    Fit a gearcase from an earlier V-4 crossflow , say a 1980 to 97 as they were better.----The gearcases that use the 2 tabs to hold bearing carrier are not robust.----A good dealer would help you with the upgrade.

    Stripped teeth on pinion gear ???-----Those new style lower units are not robust.-----Many older V-4 units from years gone by will fit with driveshaft / shift rod change.

    I use an impact to take motors apart.----No impact driver when putting a motor together !

    Run with timing light and see if you can pinpoint top or bottom cylinder.-----Inspect bottom of the coils.----Test the coils .----Replace condensers.---Replace plug wires with 7 mm metal core ones.----Primer bulbs do not need to be hard once motor is running !

    The coils / windings on a stator are made with copper wire.---Not just any wire.----It is " magnet wire " and has a thin coating on it.----Heat / vibration sometimes allows windings to move and start touching.----That reduces the performance of the windings.----Not easy for some folks to...
