    What's behind this plug? 2001 4.3L

Cool, that's what I thought. There's one above it as well, couldn't remember which was the cam.

    What's behind this plug? 2001 4.3L

Finally got the flywheel off on my slow motion RMS replacement. Found a plug just above the crankshaft that's ferrous (others on the block were brass already). I don't think its a water passage but want to make sure before I button it back up.

    Snapped seat bolt

I've got 235k on the clock and beat the everloving crap out of this thing. The seat was $35, switches were $20. New plugs and wires last year were $50. Free oil change won at a flying squirrels game. Antique tags, no inspection or license fees. New drums and shoes 2 years ago, $50-100. Total...

    Snapped seat bolt

Not sure. That's what would keep me from just running a tap through it. I don't think the gripsert would work, it would need to keep from tearing the sheet metal in a crash. Yeah, check out the seat. Pretty sweet, right? It's heated but someone swiped the switch. The wiring was different, and...

    Mercruiser 120 poor starting

He's got fuel in the accel pump well, and that's a good amount in the bowl. If the pump squirts fuel, looks good enough to run to me... Sorry for the confusion, but looks like you have spark to the coil, great. Are you getting it at the plugs? If so, great, we're done (probably). If not you...

    Mercruiser 120 poor starting

You may or may not have 2 problems, which the parts cannon may or may not have helped. I'd start with spark first. The points system is pretty simple. Ignition on, there should be 12v at the coil pos. Coil neg will be either 12v or 8ish depending on whether the points are open or closed...

    Critters in My Boat

I'm going to take the opposite route. I leave my boat loosely covered with the sides open. Unless there's a real driving rain (and Im parked next to a building on the usual windward side) it doesn't get wet. Doesn't get mold. No critters because I think it's too exposed for them.

    Mercruiser 120 poor starting

Not sure what you did with the points? Replaced, set dwell? You have voltage at the coil?

How do you pin point the source of a loud vibration

    1. Drain the oil again/pop the cap and see what you got 2. Pull the drive and start the motor to see if the vibration is still there 3. Did you check alignment?

    Snapped seat bolt

The front seat in my '97 ranger (which I swiped from an explorer 16 years ago) are worn enough now that the springs have cut through the foam. Back to the junkyard and got another "new" one. One of the bolts (out of 4) holding the frame to the floor snapped off. Against my better judgement used...

Free boat with history of leak... worth it? Will a survey catch issues?

This. None of the guesswork of a moisture meter, easy and foolproof

Only every other rotation in a 4 stroke.

    1990 mercruiser 4.3 no spark

Maybe, but isn't always obvious to someone that the location of #1 can move and isn't necessarily where the diagram on the net says it is

    1990 mercruiser 4.3 no spark

Possible if it's pointing at the position that #1 *should* be. Op, it should be pointing at the #1 plug wire, correct?

What kind of damage from an I/O in salt water for 2-3 years?

You'd have to assume a complete repower. Good amount of work, you probably need to find a donor boat with a rotten hull. In the water, unable to be tested, it is worth negative money. Especially without a trailer. However, you said that the owner was willing to start it, or at least try to? Even...
