    Time to re-upholster - Formula 330 SS

Here is a good example of the difference in the patterns when you make new vs. use the pieces from the old skin. . . These are the new patterns and the matching pieces from the old skin. As you can see the new patterns are about 1" longer and the curves are slightly different. I am not sure why...

    Time to re-upholster - Formula 330 SS

Here are the templates for the port side settee backrest. The backrest 'seemed' pretty simple, but it turns out there are 18 pieces total that will make up the vinyl skin  . . . My approach of making new patterns for all of the skins, rather than using the old vinyl skins as templates, is...

    Time to re-upholster - Formula 330 SS

Update . . . The weather has been really warm this weekend and I have completed the rebuilding of the seat frames. Here are a few pictures . . . . This is the 'lid' for the large storage compartment on the back of the U-shaped seating. Originally, it had no form of bracing to hold the right...

    Time to re-upholster - Formula 330 SS

More seat bases . . . I got a little bit of 'puckering' in the pink accent going around the corners. The steam took them out a little bit, but they are still noticeable. Not sure I can do much about it now though . . . :noidea: . . The large seat base that goes across the rear remains to be...

    Time to re-upholster - Formula 330 SS

Here is the middle section of the U-shape seat, both base and backrest. . ,. . I'll be doing the 3 other base seats sections tomorrow. I learned (via YouTube) a trick to get the vinyl to tighten up a bit after the skin is stapled to the backing. Boiling hot water poured over a towel that is...

    Time to re-upholster - Formula 330 SS

Back at it this weekend. Here are some pictures of the seat base backing to straighten out the piece that had a bend . . . . . . . 12 SS bolt/nylock sets did the trick to flatten it out. I'll need to trim the exposed length of the bolts.

    Time to re-upholster - Formula 330 SS

A nice thing about winter months in the northern areas is that you can really dry out wood, if you bring it inside into a heated environment. Here are the remaining wood pieces from the boat seats that look to be 'savable' . . . I sprayed the them all over with bleach, let them soak for a day...

    Time to re-upholster - Formula 330 SS

This is the forward section of the 'U'-shaped seating. It is a mess . . . . . Looks like I'll be re-building this one. FWIW - I took this seat assembly out about 5 years ago to do some work under the cockpit and it was fine then. I think once rot takes hold, it goes quickly.

    Time to re-upholster - Formula 330 SS

Here is the largest of the seat bases ready to be given the final seam. I am using a combination of basting tape, clips, and staples to hold the pieces together in alignment while doing the sewing. . . . I'll have to grab some plywood this weekend so's I can make the new backer boards. Got to...

    1988 Rogue 2420

Scott Danforth It looks like you will have 4 pieces . . . 3 are basically the same . . . The 4th is the more elaborate piece, as per below . . . . (Right?) . . then the larger piece with the more elaborate stitching . . . . . Let me know if I have got this right.

    Time to re-upholster - Formula 330 SS

This is the largest seat base . . . about 80" long. gluing the sew foam was a bit of a challenge with such a large piece of vinyl, but it all worked out. . . Probably will start sewing it together tonight. Then, I'll be fabricating the seat backer boards so I can put them all together. Got...

    Time to re-upholster - Formula 330 SS

I am starting to work on the backer boards for the seats. There are 3 hinged seat sections that open up into storage compartments 1) Port settee base 2) Center of the U-shaped seating base 3) Aft portion of the u-shaped seating backrest. The Center base would typically fall into the storage...

    Time to re-upholster - Formula 330 SS

Update . . . This is the port side settee base. (loosely fit) . . This skin came out the best so far. I am using the 3M 77 adhesive for the 'sew foam' and that is working out much better than the water-based stuff. One more base to go, then it is onto the seat backs.

    Time to re-upholster - Formula 330 SS

Progress Update . . . I made the seat 'pull straps' for the 3 hinged seat sections. . . I am now working on the port side settee. This seat base is a bit different than the 'U' shaped seating bases. . . . Next steps are to lay out the templates on a sheet of vinyl and markup the pieces for...

    Time to re-upholster - Formula 330 SS

Thanks guys for the pointers along the way. This one turned out much better . . . . . . . The vinyl skin is just tacked in place . . . the center 'tack strip' is not adhered to the base, etc. I need to make a new plywood backing for this seat, because it is cracked. Onward . . . I think I...

    Time to re-upholster - Formula 330 SS

I've got the pieces all cut out and ready to go. I should be stitching this evening after work. . . I did find out where I came up short on my previous attempt. . . . the piece in the middle was about 2 inches shorter than it should have been :noidea: I am adding a dash of the pink on the...
