Anybody know about Ford DIS ignitions?

Ah, well, it wasn't the coil. The spark actually doesn't look like it's dropping anymore, but I guess that wasn't the main issue. The misfire seems to start in cylinder 5/6 and then eventually throws a "random misfire" code, along with a lean code on that bank (this is the opposite bank from...

Anybody know about Ford DIS ignitions?

Seems that the port side sparks twice as often as the starboard side. I'm definitely dropping some sparks on the starboard side. Had my wife pick up a new coil on the way down here, I'll throw it on in the am. How would scanner/scope help me here?

Anybody know about Ford DIS ignitions?

Started getting some surging, initially worried a drivetrain issue. Then felt like a misfire, eventually got a CEL for #3 misfire. Replaced plugs, which definitely needed it but then started getting misfires in all of 1 bank's cylinders (4/5/6). I put a timing light on the plug wires and got...

    Sealing electrical connections?

I'll try this with a mini butane torch. Thinking I'll end up just melting the insulation though. What's the varnish you're talking about? Guessing I won't be able to find it locally. Ordered some new shrink wrap and the crc hd corrosion inhibitor as well. I was able to cut the wire back to...

    Sealing electrical connections?

This is on the lift, not the boat...I have used silicon in the crimps before. My shrink wrap isn't adhesive lined. the lugs used are heavier gauge (4 or 8, don't remember) and bare brass. EDIT: The problem is water getting in at the far end of the crimp I think. the failure point is where the...

    Sealing electrical connections?

End of the season storm last year hit my boat lift. All connections are enclosed, and nothing was submerged, but I guess that salt spray is pretty pervasive. Many connections corroded/broke. I'd like to make them more water resistant. They were shrink wrapped and liquid taped. I'm thinking I...

    Mercruiser 3.0L Starting Challenges

Check to make sure that your shift interrupt switch isn't stuck/activated. More generally, check to see if you have spark.

Stern Drive transom lower right bolt fell out

I mean, it can be done for cheap, depending on how you value your time. I'm going to add up all of my parts costs for the last 16 years and see what it ends up as.

Stern Drive transom lower right bolt fell out

It doesn't matter. If it broke then it was corroded.

Stern Drive transom lower right bolt fell out

Oh yeah, there's a 0% chance of even accessing those bolts with the engine in, never mind doing any kind of repair or inspection

Stern Drive transom lower right bolt fell out

This was the case in mine. Transom had localized rot along both of the bolts. I was able to clean out the rot, fill the holes with epoxy and redrill. Although if I did it again I'd fill with 5200 instead.

How do I troubleshoot the solar panel of my lift?

Thank you, Chatgpt Where's the manual? I couldn't find a solar lift when I built mine, I'm curious about this one Op, you're getting voltage out of the panel, so you should be getting some charge. You can put an ammeter between the panel and battery to see what it's putting out. Then see if...

This is one reason you lower the out drive...

I've heard that people also have " trim gauges" that work. I think I had one of those once

    Batteries not charging

This is truly terrible advice. Anybody reading this, if you think that there aren't better ways to test your alternator (really, a multimeter between the alt output and ground)... there are. You can 100% fry an ECU doing this. Not as much of an issue in these engines, but don't generalize 1960's...
