    A pair of V blocks, press, and dial indicator yes you can do it if you have some experience. You really have nothing to loose trying, or if you have a machine shop local they may have some experience doing this

    Yeah i think pre vortec 2 bbl was 198 or 200 hp, 4 bbl was 230, both maybe flywheel vs net HP. Either way you will be fine

    Take the plugs out and turn it over if water come out spark plug holes. if flywheel is going backwards that is indicative of some pressure in cylinders i dont think it would hydro lock that quickly as shown on video But easy to rule out

    Surprising only three years in salt would do it. I boat in the finger lakes in NY, unless you don’t drain it winterizing, they last the lifetime of the boat. On my old boat (3.0) i took the elbow off after 20+ years and it was fine.

    Agreed sounds like starter I would check there is no water In cylinder or does it turn over freely ? Otherwise starter is bad or maybe loose not allowing smooth retracting of gear

    Yes distributor needs to come out first, then usually some type of pry bar on the ends, they are just an oil sealing face with rtv Not a gasketed surface like between manifold and head throttle body can stay on

    What Lou said - always hear Kodiak is the best or X brand is as good as Kodiak... I boat in fresh water and use my trailer twice a year so the tie down set up has worked great for me for 6 years. If I pulled it more than 10 miles to the launch I might be more worried about it...knock on wood...

    Mercruiser 5.0 with an alpha one drive is an ideal power plant for typical bowrider of that size. Parts and service are plentiful and cheap, assuming it was reasonably well maintained, with a little annual maintenance will provide many more years of service to you. I think someone did floors...

    Trailer Brakes or Not

    If the trailer is a good deal buy and replace the brake system. When I bought my boat 6 years ago surge brakes on it were roached. I bought a Tie Down kit for less than $500. Yes there are better surge brake kits than tie down but you get the point.

    Yeah hook it back up. Is this a new to you boat? It likely means the shift cable was worn/dragging and killing the engine when shifting, so someone disconnected it... so you probably are in need of a lower shift cable and linkage replacement.
