Mercruiser - 3.7 ( 470 ) Alpha1 ( please list the sources of CLEAN water in the oil ) about a cup - Antifreeze not leaking - no green in the water -

Yes, if that gasket fails between the mani/elbow, or if the elbow corrodes (manifold is aluminum on later models, lasts longer) that can also let fresh water into the exhaust.

Would need to know the voltage at the coil first. Do a search. Like Bigfoot, unsure if it actually exists. Every few years someone comes up with a solution, claims it works, and then disappears. Last I saw I think was a regulator for a motorcycle. I mean, it *should* be possible, plenty of...

Check your voltage at the coil, you could burn out your points. If you really want to half ass it, you could put an extra resistor in line to lower the voltage to ~9v. Or you can try one of the cheap voltage regulator fixes that have been proposed in the past.

    Mercruiser 165hp I/O

Engine's fine, but everything about it is obsolete, drive also. Parts can be tough to get. Drive may be upgradeable easily depending on year, but the boat doesn't look like anything special either. You can get something much newer for way less than what it would cost to get that boat looking and...

    Source for mooring chain/hardware?

Sounds like an expensive carry on Brackish. The heavy chain isn't in terrible shape, but the shackle to the mooring rubbed through. There was definite wear though, so figured I might as well replace it and the rest of the tackle. The light chain I replace every 3 years or so, the lower links...

Get a remote oil filter kit while the engine's out. These jokers only deal with the dipstick because they have to :P

    no start

You can, but why? It's turning over, but no gauges at your dash? Sounds like you aren't getting power to the purple ignition/dash wire from the ignition switch. I'd start there. You can confirm that you aren't getting power to the (+) side of coil.

    Source for mooring chain/hardware?

Yeah, unfortunately a) most of the local stores have been bought out by bigger places (doh, except one, that I'm now realizing that I forgot!) that all carry the same stuff and b) nobody does their own work anymore apparently, so this type of thing isn't stocked anymore. The only people that...

Mercruiser Alpha 1 - backfired and died out on the water ( Its electrical 100% ) - need basic troubleshooting steps,, how do i check charging system?

Stator? Is this a 470? Start at the battery. The stator doesn't usually go bad, but if you have a regulator still it's had a good run

Amazon does sell quicksilver parts, but also a ton of junk. Ebay is another place, same caveat.

2007 Merc 5.0 TKS stalled at speed, had to be towed

Purple --> purple/yellow bypasses that switch and lets the FP run. Looking at the diagram in manual #41 though, there's an additional OP switch that I hadn't noticed before (#26). Appears to let the ICM know if there's no OP, which then presumably kills spark or triggers audio warning (I can't...
