    Intake choice

Not sure that’s a marine QJet because I don’t see the nipple for the mechanical overflow hose. If you use a mechanical fuel pump that safety feature should be included; in case the diaphragm leaks. If you use the old manifold make sure that it’s not rotted out under the thermostat housing; that...

    Intake choice

I have the well type choke on mine and as long as the spring is in good shape (you can get them and many other Quadrajet parts from Cliff's High Performance Q-Jets and Quadrajetparts.com) and the exhaust crossover passage is not clogged with carbon they can work OK. They open slower than an...

Yes. 1998 Grand Cherokee. Haven't had to replace one of the those joints that have zerks either.

    Spare wheel hub... usefull?

I'm not doubting your experience Bruce but I never had that problem always used the better Dexter double lip seals though. Maybe that is what makes the difference. If so that would be good for people to know.

    Spare wheel hub... usefull?

PS the same thing happens if you over-grease a tie rod end, or ball joint. GM used to have relief valves on theirs to keep that from happening. With out old '98 Jeep I would just put my fingers on the boot when greasing those parts, as soon as the boot got firm, you stop. With the gun I use it...

    Spare wheel hub... usefull?

So he did jack up and spin, but did he see grease come out? Had to be a bad seal and while of course that can happen, even with standard hubs, I don't know that we can say that the easy/super lube system is more prone to that problem, a failed grease seal can still leak grease onto a drum brake...

    Spare wheel hub... usefull?

OK so the pic of the greasy brake backing plate, there's more to that story, if you know how these things work, you know that you pump it with the wheel off the ground, turning the wheel and in a short amount of time (unless its the first time you are greasing it) the grease SHOULD exit the...

    DP 1.95 SM outdrive hosed

agreed that's an insane price, as in typical Volvo Penta highway robbery. find a good outdrive rebuilder, learn how to pull and install your own drive, quit getting ripped off! I can get a totally remanned Cobra for 2500-3000 tops that's all I'd pay for one! Volvo will cost more being a DP and...

    DP 1.95 SM outdrive hosed

Just for the future but I follow the trust but verify principal, I check things before I let someone work on them, a minor hit like that can cause damage but the first thing I'd have done was re-condition/replace props, check for prop shaft run out and check gear oil. I trashed a prop on my...

    Spare wheel hub... usefull?

Agreed but then for a boat trailer what’s the proper interval? That’s all up to your use. As I said if I were a trailer boater with trailer getting wet every time I’d be regreasing every 3 months or so, my point is with easy/super lube you SEE what the grease coming out looks like! So go by that...

    Spare wheel hub... usefull?

well one other idea, is to have towing insurance that could cover such an inconvenience, I have this through Boat US, its actually quite reasonable, so if I had a problem like that I could get the boat/trailer flatbedded back home. However, not having a breakdown in the first place is even...

Alpha1 350 raw cooled boils and ticks rapidly after short time on muffs

those dry joints can have both ports open, both closed (for closed cooled manifolds) or one closed and one open.

    Spare wheel hub... usefull?

Agreed and the fact of the matter is that boat trailers esp those used by trailer boaters that go in the water every time you use the boat need frequent maintenance. Very different that someone who keeps a boat in a slip or on a mooring like I do. For me it’s like 2-4 times a year in the salt...

    Spare wheel hub... usefull?

I have had the spindle lube system for about 17 seasons worth and never had trouble with the bearings; every time I greased them fully all the old grease came out looking fine no sign of water/emulsified grease and no roughness while spinning the wheel. I changed the seals twice in that time...

Jacking a tandem axle trailer safely

I have always used a floor jack right near the spring pad, never had a problem, but the axles I used were both built from 1/4” thick steel. First one was a 2x2 3500 axle the second which replaced that one is a 2x3 6000 axle. Maybe also use a block of wood with the bottle jack to spread the load out.

Alpha1 350 raw cooled boils and ticks rapidly after short time on muffs

Actually Barr is better than the other aftermarket stuff that is what most mechanics think here at least.Yes they can be rodded out to clear the corrosion. Keep in mind elbows always corrode faster than the manifolds do because manifolds have water in them all the time while the water passages...

    Daily Driver

I haven't bought a brand new car for myself in 23 years, when I bought the '98 Jeep Grand Cherokee we still have. I have fixed a lot of stuff on it, but we are attached to it being one of the last of the AMC/Chrysler era Jeeps. Simple, great off road and cheap to fix. Then felt the need for more...
