What type of oil and lube to use

That's interesting because I did a couple of oil analyses of Chevron Delo straight 40 and and the Merc/Quicksilver 25/40 and the Merc/Quicksilver oil held up just as well, but this was a long time ago, maybe 10 years. I'd like to see back to back tests of the Merc/Quicksilver and the 15/40 from...

What type of oil and lube to use

I don't think you can go wrong using either Rotella or Delo in the 15/40 viscosity range.

Bravo steering cable will not come out

Those bolts and the pin that's holding the clevis to the steering arm of the outdrive, if you want the whole actuator assembly to be able to move freely to get enough space. I guess you already got the pin for the cable out. I'm thinking you should have enough slack in the hydraulic hoses to not...

    Speedometer Connected to GPS Device?

I recently fixed my old pitot tube speedo, and it is pretty much in agreement with the GPS on my Garmin but doesn't really start reading till 10-15 mph. Just have to clean out the tube every so often.

Brandnew retro fitted water shutters making tons of noise

I guess my wife is right, my hearing ain't so good, I don't hear any terrible noise in that vid. The rubber/fiberglass ones in my OMC can make noises that sound like a bearing knock. It damn near drove me crazy when I did my top end overhaul. What happend was this...had to replace cyl heads...

New Engine Replacement - Engine Died and Hydro locked after 5 hrs!?

Or it could be one of those pie plate hatches in the deck.

New Engine Replacement - Engine Died and Hydro locked after 5 hrs!?

Does this boat have a hatch over the gas tank? If so that is one place you can check for water accumulation, sometimes on a bow rider the water will get into the ski locker, and then travel to the gas tank compartment and if there is debris blocking the limber hole it won't wind up in the engine...

New Engine Replacement - Engine Died and Hydro locked after 5 hrs!?

It's a 26 foot boat! I'm sure that none of these ever came with a 3.0 I/O.... that just shows that NADA doesn't have the right information either!

New Engine Replacement - Engine Died and Hydro locked after 5 hrs!?

That's what I said earlier, if even 10 gallons of water comes out of that boat I'll be surprised and that's only 80 lbs! The only way I can imagine it being more than that is if there were cavities that should have been filled with foam that were not filled and those got filled with water. It...

    Transmission Spewing Water

When it’s running have you checked all the clamps for your exhaust system? The ones in this pic look loose to me!

New Engine Replacement - Engine Died and Hydro locked after 5 hrs!?

I’ve always been curious how much our boat weighs but it’s difficult to find a place with a CAT scale here, I finally found a recycling place local to me that can weigh it, I might bring it over there in the spring to see how much it weighs. The dry weight of this boat was listed at 2650 lbs, I...

New Engine Replacement - Engine Died and Hydro locked after 5 hrs!?

Those lights look suspicious the other area you might check is your depth finder transducer, I see extra holes that have been plugged with sealer. I might also email Chapparal customer service and ask them how much above dry weight you could expect a boat to be (allow for that tower and any...

Sea Ray 180 sig series termite/water in ski locker rot

And invest in personal protection equipment like 3m respirators, typecast suits gloves and goggles. Grinding fiberglass is bad for your health and so are the resins used in boat reconstruction. You should use 3m respirators with fume cartridges with N95 inserts for working with resins and P100...

    4.3 omc cobra no start

Isn't that the Merc combination of a cast aluminum block and cast iron Ford 460 head? with closed cooling because of the alu block? I think you'd be better off with a 4.3 in every way!

Overheat on 5.0 with SX outdrive

Agreed since the impeller is down stream of where the flush port is it’s likely it ran hot and wore to the point where it won’t pump adequately. In fact if you find it’s missing vanes I would remove the thermostat housing and look inside and clean out all the passages. It’s even remotely...

New Engine Replacement - Engine Died and Hydro locked after 5 hrs!?

Well certainly anything is possible but it’s also possible for inboard exhaust to run hot enough to melt rubber yet for the engine to be at normal temp on the dash gauge. In fact this is why some engines with overheat warning systems have additional temp sensors on the exhaust elbows to warn you...
