    Bow plowing at high speed.

Nothing wrong with the boat. The bow isn’t supposed to be sticking up in air. Running angles are typically in the 3-5 degree range. I would be more concerned if a 19 ft. rode like a 15 footer

    water in VRO tank

The filter in the tank is an OE part. You can find part number for filter on-line. XD25 is an obsolete/discontinued oil. You can run any TCW 3 oil in it. I run XD50 and Pennzoil Premium Plus in mine. Far less smoke than XD30

    handheld vs fixed mount VHF

Cell coverage can be spotty on the water to say the least. VHF always works and is alway monitored Most commercials guys I know have one in their truck as absure fire way of keeping in touch with people “at the office” if needed and to stay abreast of conditions (marine forecast) out on the water.

    SmartCraft Gauge or NMEA2000 Gateway

Here is the list of PGN supported by your display. Need to figure out what’s available from your engine. N2K PGNs Receive only 65240 ISO Commanded Address, 127245 Rudder, 127251 Rate of Turn, 127257 Attitude, 127488 Engine Parameters, Rapid Update, 127489 Engine Parameters, Dynamic, 127493...

Could bad gas cause poor idling?

How does you car start and run at 9C? No reason your boat shouldn’t start and run the same. Fresh fuel and probably a carb cleaning

    SmartCraft Gauge or NMEA2000 Gateway

Your going to need a $400+ gateway either way. NMEA 2000 buys you nothing unless you have a full featured, NMEA 2000 compliant display to support it.

Great time to sell a used boat.

Nothing to do with the way people think. It’s all about supply and demand. Around here, (MD\NOVA\DC area) new housing starts are non-existent and existing housing inventories are at record lows. The homes that are on the market are selling in no time at all with huge premiums. Buyers need to...

Need guidance on 30 Year old Fuel Tank

Hard to tell how bad with all the mold still in place, but it doesn’t look good. Pretty good witness as to why foaming a tank in place is frowned up

    Brakes went out!

Know the feeling all to well. Trailered 125 miles to a tournament. Dropped the boat in the water and went to park. Pulled in a parking space and the pedal went to the floor. Could have been a whole lot worst had they gone out on the trip down.

How do you cut the threaded pipe on aerator pumps?

What “threads” are you talking about? The threads holding the thru hull in place are not pipe threads. The pipe thread that might be there are NPS threads. Purposely not comparable with NPT “plumbing” fittings

5056 rivets vs 2117tv rivets for 5052 aluminum hull

There are a number of 5XXX series alloys that have no business being anywhere near a marine environment. Aluminum alloys 5059, 5083, 5086, 5454, and 5456 are the primary “marine” alloys in use today

Should be screwed in the tap to the pressure tank, right in front of pressure switch.

5056 rivets vs 2117tv rivets for 5052 aluminum hull

The 2117 is “structural” quality aluminum alloyed for making rivits. 5056 is soft, used in forming and punching. I would stick with 2117

    Anchor winch advice

Ok, looked it up Winch pull x cantilever length comes out to 200 ft pounds. Four (4) 5/16” bolts would work, but not a fan of rivet nuts in high vibration environments. Through bolting woth ny-lock nuts would make a much more robust connection in the long run

    Anchor winch advice

I doubt it will hold up. How long from the bolts to the end of the pulpit? What is the pull strength of the winch? In comparison, mine is thru bolted through 1/4” aluminum with 1/2” bolts

Proper batteries for Volvo Penta 5.7Gxi-C

If you have been using them for 18 months and you have not had issues to date, I wouldn't worry about it. Use them until they die and replace with grp. 27 batteries. Not going to damage anything from the resulting under voltage condition. It's just not going to start. If worst come to worst...

Proper batteries for Volvo Penta 5.7Gxi-C

From your manual: "The engine starting battery must be a heavy duty, 12-volt, 650 CCA battery." As long as you don't boat when the temp is below 32F, you will not have a problem what you have...

Are surge brakes always a PIA?

Trailer brakes are a closed loop system. Bleeding is a one time deal unless you didn’t bleed them properly to begin with, open the system again or have a leak somewhere in the system. Excess piston travel (worn or misadjusted brake pads) will cause issues as well

    Fishfinder help...

Humminbird plays games with their performance specifications. My biggest gripe is the use of non-industry standard units of measure, purposely making it hard to make a side by side comparison of performance. Case in Point: 1. Output Power measured in Peak Power instead of RMS watts. 2. Beam...
