    Installing a new asphalt driveway

Says the concrete installer and driveway sealing unions...lol Our drive (0.3 miles) has not been sealed in 35 years.

    Voltage drop(s)

Troubleshooting a boot problem with the unit. It would start boot process then stop. Pretty obvious the boot sequence is waiting for something......times out then freezes. Display read 12V, gauge, battery, and connector at back of unit all at 12.7 Didn’t make sense unless the display was...

New to me '96 Evinrude 200, keep the VRO?

No need to remove air box. Fuel pump is in plain sight. The “old” (VRO) to “new” (OMS) change was in 1993. http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/VRO.html

    Voltage drop(s)

Can’t speak for ECU but GPS/fish finders use internal power supplies to regulate and step down (+5v) the incoming current for use by the electronics. I asked tech support the same question a few years back. Asked them if the display voltage was raw or regulated. They didn’t know the answer...

    Voltage drop(s)

It would be interesting to see voltages with the batteries at “rest”. A lot of battery to be charged with 70A charging system if the DTS is drawing down your voltage, you have battery issues

Do these annodes look like they need to be replaced?

Yes and no. The driving force for corrosion is a potential difference between the different materials at the micro-structure level. People wrongly assume that "water" must be involved which isn't the case. An electrolyte will accelerate the issue but it is not the root "cause" of the problem...

    Fishfinder help...

As I noted above, side scan field of view is 2-3 times the depth. If the water is 3’ feet deep, the field of view is 6-9’ wide. You can go beyond 2-3x, but image quality suffers immensely. The price of electronics have dropped considerably over the past 10 years. There is nothing the old...

Drilling gunwales for flush mount rod holders?

Depends on how the boat is constructed. I have 3 holders plus an outrigger mount on each gunnel. Backed up with “plywood” and aluminum sandwich. Fishes #50 offshore tackle with no problem

Opinions on 96 Evinrude 200 Ocean Pro

Wouldn't own a motor I didn’t trust the VRO on. Have 154 gallon fuel capacity. Burn way to much fuel to deal with premix. Keep 3 gallon oil tank full and keep pumping gas

Opinions on 96 Evinrude 200 Ocean Pro

I have the 1997 version of that motor. Put close to 2000 hours on the first power head before corrosion got it. Have probably 250 hours in it replacement. To be fair, it had gremlins from time to time. All OE electrical systems have been replaced. Starter, voltage regulator, power pack, etc...

What pitch prop for Carolina Skiff J14 with Yamaha15 2 stoke?

No, he has not sent the prop out for blue printing. Nothing wrong with the motor.... Carolina Skiffs are utility boats. A flat bottomed boat built for shallow, back bay use. A fiberglass Jon boat by all measures. Very popular with the locals as a stable crabbing platform, Although the 16’ is...

    Conventional Casting reels

Nine times out of ten, online arguments are meant to antagonize and/or born of limited experience with the subject matter. Head over to the surf and distance casting boards and you hear no such arguments.

    23’ steiger craft block island

A little slim on fuel to get too crazy. Twin 150’s would push the boat well and get you a decent fuel range Locally...Suzuki owns the repower market. Yamaha rules the OEM roost and Honda is the choice of guides and first responders.

What pitch prop for Carolina Skiff J14 with Yamaha15 2 stoke?

The boat is badly under powered at 15 HP A good friend has one with 25 HP that he uses to crab. Runs pretty good with one onboard. Has a hard time planing with 2-#200 guys on board.

    Garmin 840xs screen blacks out

The know issue is the in-line fuse holder on the power cable. Make sure the unit is grounded to the battery. Grounding to the “hull” will not cut it. Might want to try buzzing the transducer out. The Airmar website has schematics for most popular transducers
