    None of my Mercruiser 305Ls have ever shook the boat. Does the FWD thump continue as you increase boat speed. Is a random thump or like definite repeat pattern.

    Most chokes are fully closed when cold enough. As engine creates a vacuum in the carb throat that pulls the choke plate to a partial opening condition. That is the time and setting that I adjust the idle mixtures for a strong steady mixture. Done

    My 2002 5.0L had a coolant ....Balancing Valve...To help both sides be the same temperature. My old mechanic removed the valve. Because they were known to stick either way. Temperature difference was about 10 F all the time.

    I did a web search on your Holley 4160 carb. It is the ABSOLUTE worst carburetor for someone with no training about ALL THE POSSIBLE ADJUSTMENTS. Hopeless for DIY person. I would return it if possible.

    Make VERY VERY SURE the throttle linkage will REACH and CONNECT to the new carb !!!!! Otherwise can be a long disaster. BEEN THERE. Also make sure pushing down on the pedal WILL CAUSE the carb to open the throttle butterfly.
