    MerCruiser 5.0 Manifold Crack/Hydrolock Help

depending on where it cracked, it theoretically could put water into an exhaust port, but it would take a while for that much to show up in the oil. I agree do not take it apart, before doing air pressure testing as described above. if it holds pressure then replace the manifolds and move on. DO...

1990 (ish) Yamaha 3 HP only runs on choke

Not sure Ted if that will work but we had a similar problem with a 2012 Suzuki DF2.5 I bought for my son. Even from new. They replaced the carb, same issue. Then they removed a tin cover over the idle mix screw and adjusted it; better but not perfect. So when the warrantee ran out I removed the...

VP 4.3GL/SX 190 HP starting issue - intermittent

In fact years ago when I still had my original OMC exhaust manifolds the drain was right over the starter. One year the drain on that side leaked slightly and turned the solenoid terminals into a ball ‘o rust. Got the intermittent no crank issue and wound up removing the starter replacing the...

VP 4.3GL/SX 190 HP starting issue - intermittent

Might have to remove exhaust on that side to get at starter. I would never buy a boat with bad access

1 exhaust manifold hot/ the other cool

Bruce many listings on that site say: Thru dealer Or Obsolete part Hence why I suggested going to a dealer. Marine Engine . Com gives: Original OE part # superceeded new part # aftermarket part # However for VP they seem to only have aftermarket

1 exhaust manifold hot/ the other cool

Since using that catalog is such a pain I suggest that you consider finding an actual dealer and walk in with the parts diagrams with parts numbers and see if they can order parts for you. I have a local marine parts dealer who can order stuff from Merc, VP or BRP as long as have part numbers. I...

VP 4.3GL/SX 190 HP starting issue - intermittent

You may have to go through all the wiring between the ignition switch and the starter (start with a Volvo wiring schematic) to find the bad connection that may be causing high resistance. There is usually an extra assist solenoid between the ignition switch and the starter, check connections...

Temp switch went off - overheating engine?

Verify your engine temp readings with the IR temp gun, before changing parts. The temp sensor can be tested with an Ohmmeter against manufacturer's specs.

    I Need a Mooring Cover

The bow cover goes up under the windshield that opens and the cockpit cover should overlap that so it doesn't really leak there. A one piece cover is going to be an enormous pain in the butt to deal with, I have one for winter storage and there is no way I'd use that on my mooring! If the bow...

MASSIVE oil leak mechanic can’t find

Can you get around the back side of the motor and see if its the sealer on back side of the intake manifold, behind the distributor, maybe there was not enough sealer on that side and it is running down behind the end of the valve cover down to the starter. The front and rear of the intake...

    Perplexing electrical issue

Well then the only way is to start pulling fuses and see what doesn't work and label the fuse box so at least you know.

    I Need a Mooring Cover

On our boat it is 2 pieces, the bow cover and the cockpit cover. Not hard to put on, just takes about 5 min. I do it on the mooring by myself every time I use the boat. Never left it uncovered. The benefits is your interior lasts much longer and also when storms come it keeps most of the water...

    I Need a Mooring Cover

I had a custom bow and cockpit cover made for our F/W H-200 way back in 2003 and it does keep most of the water out. They need to be really cleaned well and re-waterproofed yearly. Sunbrella fabric really lasts.

1 exhaust manifold hot/ the other cool

I agree I find Volvo model #s and parts finding frustrating. The old OMC system was much simpler. I like Marine Engine . Com for parts

    Perplexing electrical issue

What you have is the engine harness, you need the boats wiring harness as well. The fuse box should be marked is it not?

1 exhaust manifold hot/ the other cool

Well to start you should inspect and probably replace the impeller. Then take off the thermostat housing and make sure all the ports in it are open and the thermostat is opening at the right temp and opens far enough. Lastly I’d remove the exhaust elbows and make sure the cooling passages are...

Volvo Penta 4.3GL-C bogs and surges when hot

If it sat for a couple years it may be time to go through the carb; might need a cleaning and re-assembly with new gaskets. The problem is that evaporated fuel leaves behind deposits that clog jets and passages. Same thing with small engines. The more you use them the better they run.
