    Mercruiser 4.3 cracked intake manifold

That's kinda what I thought but I found years back an OMC service bulletin from a year or so after the Vortecs came out that said that these were prone to cracking unless the plug is removed. The only way I can see that is if the big hose between the t stat housing and the circ pump is not...

    can someone tell me what motors are in a 1987 28' Chris-Craft 283 Amerosport 262 ?

I was 14 then and my best friend's dad was the shop manager at the local Ford dealer. At the time Ford and Chevrolet were right across the street from each other. During the gas shortage circa 1974 (not shortage but OPEC's extortion) I saw a 1967 Corvette at the Chevy dealer, sitting on the...

    can someone tell me what motors are in a 1987 28' Chris-Craft 283 Amerosport 262 ?

lol I'm old enough to remember when those cars were NEW. In 1968,1969, 1970. Best years for muscle cars. You could walk into a Ford dealer and buy a Mach 1 for less than 5 grand and a Boss 302 for about 4700.

    can someone tell me what motors are in a 1987 28' Chris-Craft 283 Amerosport 262 ?

Maybe take the one off and take to an auto parts store to match it up? They are all different, impossible to say off hand. BTW even Ford used Q-Jets, for a short time on the 429 CJs in the late 60s, so did Mopar believe it or not. Once you know them, they are great. Less places to leak gas than...

Holley carb on Volvo Penta 3.0 GSM-A will not idle

go on to Holley.com there's a lot of information there. it sounds like you have a blockage in your idle circuit either in the fuel supply or the air bleeds and have to go at it and clean it better. When you pull off the float bowl you really have to clean all the passages in the metering plate...

    Mercruiser 4.3 cracked intake manifold

It’s impossible to say but what I did when I did mine was I removed the rocker arms & pushrods (label positions with a sharpie & stuck pushrods in a piece of cardboard marked so all parts went back together). Then one by one I pulled out each roller lifter to inspect the cam lobes. The lifters...

    Hydrolocked - now what??

This was actually the first engine I've taken apart in my many years of maintaining my own vehicles (since 1972). I figured that I have nothing to lose and it would be a good learning experience which it truly was. I had to use an impact gun to get all the cyl head bolts out, and the intake...

    OMC 5.0 Part ID?

Agreed I'd pass on this boat, because if they didn't bother to drain the raw water intake hose for winterizing, what else did they not bother to do? You could have a cracked block and manifolds! All that needs to be done to keep these coolers from freezing: Put drive down, then disconnect raw...

Volvo Penta 4.3GL Water Pump Removal

Also feel for roughness and/or noise in the bearing of the circulating pump when you turn the pulley. Easy job to replace just like any other Chevrolet small block in the last 65 years. Just make sure to use a marine rated pump for a raw water cooled engine.

    Hydrolocked - now what??

sounds good, glad they could fix it without replacing the short block. Total parts price for my DIY job was $550 for a pair of reman V6 heads $120 for a set of Fel Pro marine gaskets (head, intake, etc) $100 for a set of ARP cyl head bolts So, about $850 for parts the rest was my labor. In all...

Need help!!!! 4.3 mercruiser just clicking

agreed some of the cheap starters sold are not worth installing. I'd use an ARCO over some of the ultra cheap stuff on ebay or Amazon. I always test starters before installing them. Its not that much of a fun job to do twice in on day, lol.

    5.0 L 305- carb leaking

Probably time for a rebuild, either the needle valve is bad or a piece of grit is holding it open causing flooding. Or, the carb float is bad, absorbed gas and is heavy and that's keeping the needle valve open even when the bowl is full. That's happened to mine twice. New needle valve fixed it...

Need help!!!! 4.3 mercruiser just clicking

Nope blown fuse means no current flow. Clicking means not enough current flow. Somewhere between the ignition switch and starter you have too much resistance from corrosion or bad terminals. Do what I advised, get down by the starter and have someone crank it while you put the voltmeter positive...

    Head gasket? Cracked head?

I'd be replacing the whole thing. That's a shame sorry to see that. If the block cracked like that, the heads would have as well. However you can take the heads and manifolds to a machine shop to get them checked out, can always keep as spares, or sell off and recover some $$. I'd see about...

the negative cable is usually bolted to a stud on the bell housing. I have one on each side, for the 2 batteries separate grounds.

Need help!!!! 4.3 mercruiser just clicking

correct the clicking suggests low voltage to a solenoid, caused by corrosion (resistance), bad wiring or a rusty old solenoid. most production boats come with crap for battery cables, and stupid wing nuts for the battery terminals, toss out that junk use proper marine quality and gauge cables...

    Mercruiser 4.3 cracked intake manifold

that looks like your raw water intake hose, I'm referring to the one on the other side that connects the stat housing wiht the front circ pump. The drain you have on there is not low enough to fully drain that hose but better than not taking it off. I would still disconnect that hose at the...

    Mercruiser 4.3 cracked intake manifold

Yep you need to: pull the block drains, poke the holes make sure it drains pull the lower end of the big hose that connects the stat housing with the front circulating pump, this drains a lot of water, in fact when I change the stat (I do this each year because in salt water they get sticky) it...
