    4.3 OMC struggles on acceleration

If you can, get a tach dwell meter and check it. Its a simple system. Points, condenser and mechanical spark advance. You should also get an advance timing light and check the total timing advance at the specified RPM.... 1st you rule out any ignition system issues, the move on to the carb. Is...

Cracked Block (looking for a quick fix)

the problem with rot repair is that the more you look the more you find...I fixed a LOT of rot on my also 1988 boat, did the most of the deck and stringer repair back in 2005, then fixed a spot in front of the gas tank in 2010, now am fixing one vertical piece, under the deck on top of the...

4.3GL PBYC not reaching operating temperature and starboard exhaust riser overheating

Here's a new VP style V6 manifold, and what the sealing surface and cooling passages look like...when you take the elbow off you can see how much rust is in both...but do the exhaust flow test first....you may have fixed it just by cleaning out the stat housing and installing a new 160* stat.

Troubleshooting guide for water in cylinders

best advice I can give is to get a factory shop manual it will answer all your questions. Yes remove the small plastic housing, (3 bolts) behind that you will see 2 water ports, and a shaft that drives the impeller, water should come out of one of them when you hook up the muffs.

    OMC 4.3 Batwing Conversion Source

Here are some pix, you can see the later style comes a bit closer to the 'glass in the rear of the engine compartment, but not a huge difference. http://www.volvopentastore.com/Exhau...view_id.791178 Here's what I used...expensive but fits perfect and no leaks...and you can use easily available...

Basic Maintenance on a 88 Four Winns Horizon 200?

Most older F/W boats of that era came with OMC Cobra drives vs the Merc Alpha drives so double check that, they are similar in the fact that they use dog clutch shifting but everything else is different. The engines are basically the same except for the add ons. I would: 1) Change the motor oil...

    Help! Overheating only when underway.

If you can see if you can find a document called "Volvo Penta Overheat Diagnosis" there is a PDF floating around the 'net that details all the procedures that Volvo advises to diagnose overheat problems. If the thermostat housing was rusted up inside, did you make sure the passages were open...

    Impeller replacement

This shows how the OMC/Volvo stat housing design works, when the engine is cold and the stat is closed, all the incoming water pumped by the impeller gets pumped out the exhaust system which is why you see water right away, unless the whole system was drained. Then when the stat opens, warm...

    no water at motor

no you will not as Bondo said, the muffs have to fit well to allow the water pump to prime...when you do a Cobra impeller there are a couple of little things to keep in mind: that hose hooked up to the nipple on the housing and its fitting on the housing have to be open, it lets air out and...

    shifting issue...

Neither it is the mounting surface with the tapped holes you can see there. not the best pic but best I could do... also make sure the water tube grommets are in good shape and the water tube itself is not corroded. If the boat was ever overheated the grommets can be scorched.

    Spark plugs saturated with gas

If its flooding then you need to most likely do a complete carb cleaning and rebuild. The 2bbl is pretty simple (Rochester 2GV) but the 4bbl (Rochester 4MV) a bit more complex....your problem sounds like a bad needle valve, grit in the needle valve holding it open, mis adjusted float, or float...
