Boat Died on the Charles River (Massachusetts) - Had to Self Rescue!

If it makes you feel better, I intentionally ran out of gas. Only time in my life I needed a tow. Didn't know how much of a reserve my new to me fuel sender would show so I went out with a 5 gallon can with the intention of running the tank dry after the gauge dropped to zero. The only problem...

    Mercruiser 470 Rod Bearing

Typically they are stamped standard (STD) or whatever oversize they are (.010 etc) I would say they are probably standard.

Draining gas tank questions -- Is this thing a vent? How does my tank look in general?

I have a cheap electric pump I use... you could also just pull the fitting and replace with a regular barb fitting for now to drain, or pull the sending unit and siphon from there. For the barb... pretty sure its 1/4 NPT x 3/8. If you have a fuel water separator with threaded fittings you can...

Draining gas tank questions -- Is this thing a vent? How does my tank look in general?

That big fitting coming out of the pickup on #3 is an antisiphon valve.... meaning it has a small check ball in it that prevents siphon and you need constant suction on it to pull fuel. That is why the hand primer bulb is struggling. Now that can be gunked up and restricting flow as well, it...

Nothing crazy. Offset smoker. Around 250-275. I use applewood. Depending on my mood I'll use chunks or chips for the wood. If using the chips they are wet, if using chunks dry. I know everyone has different opinions on the wet or dry... but the chips are useless if dry at the higher temps imo...

I had a big bowl of pasta salad around 9 am and at that point was functioning. The 2 hours of sleep thursday into friday then having to work in the morning did me in. I still haven't caught back up from it. But hungover I was not oddly enough.

    My 84 4winns horizon 195 project.

Working on the trim now. Oh and I test fit the subwoofer. No I'm not an obnoxious ahole blasting music everywhere i go. I'd just like a little fill on the bottom if I'm relaxing in a cove alone.

    My 84 4winns horizon 195 project.

Its from the rollers on the transom when it rotted. I guess 40 years of sitting in the same spot took its toll. They're only about 1/8" depressions if that. I built up the support inside in those areas when I rebuilt the transom last year. I just want to smooth out the outside too. No stress...

    My 84 4winns horizon 195 project.

Hey all. I have a question. I'm going to be going through and filling in a couple scrapes on the bottom before I paint it. I also want to fill those couple of dents as well. What all would you use? I was thinking the 3m high strength or regular filler would work. I don't know that I'd trust...

Starting a 1974 Tri-Hull Restoration, it's a Stryker Mark IV model. Need help with any information or an owners manual.

So my 84 was 68 working days to get on the water. That was from removal off trailer to moving under its own power. Only help I got was someone to hold my clamps when laminating the transom to the hull and getting it on/off the trailer. So it can be not as bad as people think. Though I didn't...

Aluminum tubing for a new canvas soft top on a 1989 Starcraft Islander 221V

My smaller bimini is aluminum and plastic fittings. Thats the one that's original to the boat. My bimini that I can stand under was made by a friend in all stainless. You need two people to put it on but its a damn nice piece. I'd take the weight hit for stainless any time. Definitely go...

Carbon build up on propeller shaft

Vibration around 2k seems normal for a V6. I wouldn't worry about that. The soot is interesting. I don't know that I ever cleaned inside my hub out but I do know I've never gotten any soot off it... could be normal for EFI. I assume this has catalyst?

    '89 Arriva 2050 Restoration

I know the type. I used this for grinding off my transom. While rotted, it was still constructed well enough and there was enough of a lack of room that it was way too time consuming to go with chop and pry. This worked great for that, getting cut tabbing flat and chipping away skins. It was my...

    '89 Arriva 2050 Restoration

On my 84, I ended up using a carbide carving disc as it seemed most efficient for grinding. One of these: It worked well but you still had to hit some areas with a flap disc... IE didnt fit. 36 grit and down if you can find them, work better imo. Just a comparison between the two, the metal...

Voting for 2024 Splash of the Year!

Thanks again everyone. Just wanted to share how much I appreciate it. And a special thanks to @Zyen who's restoration I had followed since, and this is going to maybe make me sound like kind of a jerk but anyway, Highschool. This project has been scheming in my brain since 2010 or so but a few...

    My 84 4winns horizon 195 project.

For today, I started by being a little weenie. It's around 90 out and the boat was in direct sun most of the morning. So I tossed my portable A/C unit in the boat and had it blowing moderately drier air in the cabin. Made it workable. Next I got up half of the headliner before some savage...
