    Fuel System Fire

I have a motor like that. It leaked fuel for some time, before I figured it out. It never caught on fire though. It would normally take a fire to ignite fuel. Gas vapors are another subject. It takes just a spark to ignite them.

    Fuel System Fire

The only serious electrical power in the area is from the PTT relays. Maybe a wire was arcing to ground? Another guess!

    Fuel System Fire

The voltage regulator is probably water cooled, on that motor. Maybe it overheated and caught fire inducing a fire near the carbs due to a fuel leak? Obviously, this is a guess.

    Control cables.

To add, the shift cable is the only cable to move forward and backward from the center position, as the throttle handle is moved from neutral to forward and reverse.

40HP Merc or Not the way I'd do it.

Sounds like you are working on the oil injection system. If they have a remote oil reservoir in the boat, then they have a number of check valves, hoses and other stuff to force oil from the boat reservoir to the engine reservoir.

    Bent prop shaft

I have no idea of the complexity of the rebuild. However, what I have found is that if you need to replace three gears and the shaft, it will cost nearly as much as a new aftermarket gearcase.

    Where does the hose go?

Depending on the year, that hose could attach to the airbox. You might tell us the year and whether the motor is 60* or 90* V4.

Flushing Sea Ray 250 Sundancer in salt water... How To, and is it necessary?

Gee, cast iron absorbs salt and continues to rust even after flushing and drying. Do you think you can extend the life of the manifolds and risers?

    Bent prop shaft

Have you rebuilt a gearcase before?

    2002 Mercury 90 hp 4 stroke

Do you have spark on all cylinders? Do you see any signs of water intrusion?

    Bent prop shaft

Why not see what Sterndrive Engineering (SEI) has in new gearcases? Price out the replacement prop shaft, three new gears and two bearings, and compare to the replacement cost. Without labor, I will bet it is close.

    Older 4-stroke or newer 2-stroke?

Gee, if the Yamaha is HPDI, I would pass on both, unless you will do all repair and maint work yourself. If you plan your own work, then either are fine. I say that because HPDI motors are obsolete now, and did not have a long run before that. You will be pressed to find a HPDI repair shop, I...

120 MerCruiser 74'-77' trim pump wiring questions

If your trim limit switch has been jumpered out of the circuit, it means either it broke or when the engine control was replaced, and the new control did not have a trailer button, and as such, it needed to be bypassed. You might put an ohm meter on the trim limit switch. It should show zero...

120 MerCruiser 74'-77' trim pump wiring questions

Gee, run the test in the third paragraph of post #2. It is likely that the prop will ventilate before it trims above the limit Now all you need to do is listen for prop ventilation, which everyone should always do. Alternatively, add a tilt switch to your boat.

120 MerCruiser 74'-77' trim pump wiring questions

If your trim limit switch still works, and you do set it to that measurement, you will not be able to tilt the OD up when you pull the boat, or to work on it. I.E when your prop hub fails in November, 5 miles from the dock, and you want to change the prop, the OD will be far underwater. The...

Draining gas tank questions -- Is this thing a vent? How does my tank look in general?

Sure it should keep the contact to a minimum, however, one can see the corrosion. The bolts connect the two metals together, electrically.

    New Winch or Winch Strap?

Sure, my older neighbor has a 27 foot outrage with an electric winch. When I helped him pull that boat, his battery for the winch went bad and he never replaced it. I got to crank the electric winch manually, and I lived. Try that on a 27 footer....

120 MerCruiser 74'-77' trim pump wiring questions

That PTT system probably can with the original three push button panel. You would push the center button for trim, and when the trim limit switch opened, the trim would stop. Push top and middle buttons together would tilt the OD up. If you have a simple toggle switch to control the PTT, then...

    blower motor

Gee, turn on the blower switch and see with wires ger power. You want a fair amount of current, and I would think a dedicated circuit. Brown/yellow is the standard color for bilge blower power. Obviously the other wire would be black or yellow. Dark blue is nav and interior lights.

Draining gas tank questions -- Is this thing a vent? How does my tank look in general?

They may make aluminum senders, however, that is not the answer. The answer is to clean the tank and then inspect it. If it is good inside and out, you can reuse it. Most of the time, you should not get corrosion from a SS sender. You need water, and likely salt to get the corrosion you are...
