My boat needs to run real good on the 4th of July. FIX IT !!

So, Memorial Day, 4th July and Labor day? Good advice, but sad. We had some folks capsize their 21 footer on 4 July, some years ago, in the bay. The night was calm, and the capsize caused some drownings. IMO, it is real hard to capsize a 21 footer in the bay. I will guess that all the...

    1972 mercruiser water issue

Merc water impellers do not pump well at low speed, but work OK at higher speeds, say above idle, if the bottom is chewed out. The water pump base can melt as well. Also, If an Alpha OD is in salt water, barnacles can build up in the water intakes under the impeller. I would check the bottom...

Is this the idle jet? Or?

Yes, The OEM fuel strainer came with an oring and washer-style rubber seal. It was hard to get them to seal air from entering. I bought a replacement, and it just had one seal and it seems to work. When air was leaking into the gasoline line, you should have seen the trail of smoke I made...

Is this the idle jet? Or?

The VRO pump will over oil if air is getting into the gasoline supply. You will see all kinds of smoke behind the boat. Check/replace the seals on the main fuel strainer, under the airbox, as well as any other places air could get into the gasoline line.. Your VRO pump is likely just fine.

    Water in the Lower Unit

Use the gear oil fitting on a bicycle pump to pressure test the gearcase. I would suspect the shiftshaft seal.

1979 Mercury 80 HP Tach issues

Mercury tachometers need +12VDC, ground and stator pulses to operate. Normally a MerControl will offer these via plug on the MerControl or via pigtails on the newer Mercury controls. The stator pulse is on either of the yellow wires that go to the rectifier. One of these should connect to a...

    2018 60HP Mercury outboard - lower end

Gearcases have tight tolerances. These are set using shims behind the bearings. Some need special tools to make it correct, and if incorrect, the gears wear out quickly. Gearcases are also often hard to disassemble. Check out Sterndriveengineering.com (SEI.com) for a new replacement gearcase...

    Bilge Pump -Auto or???

After 21 years, it most likely has been replaced at least once. Is it still an OEM model?

    2018 60HP Mercury outboard - lower end

Water in the gear oil will cause wear on the bearings. This will only show up when the motor is operating. This can lead to a wobble on the driveshaft or propshaft, which allows water to get past the seals.

Stator from 80hp to use on 200hp

A V6 will have two switchboxes. An 80HP motor will be one switchbox. Do you have the same number of switchbox wires?

1989 Sea Ray 200 BR Interior rebuild and new layout

Actually, IMO Outboards killed the I/O market due to the Maintenace required by the sterndrives. I/O blocks were cheaper due to mass production of the auto industry. Unfortunately, the OB motors had less and a lot less Maintenace requirements.

Takes on water over the transom while loading and unloading

Gee, I did not read the multiple posts. How about larger tires on the trailer.? That may raise it up enough Aso. put the trailer in the water slowly, straps off and see it rises.

    1988 mercruiser 5.0 alpha one

My '88 MerCruiser 4.3LX had two fuel filters. One was a small paper cylinder that fit inside a housing that screwed into the carb. The other was a porous stone filter that fit on the top of the fuel pump, under a cover. You might check them. Maybe the one on the carb is partially clogged.

1989 Sea Ray 200 BR Interior rebuild and new layout

You can cover the plywood with marine vinyl. Use stainless steel staples and stretch the vinyl to make it fit nicely. It will look much better than a crummy glass job. A good glass job will need to be sanded very smooth and then gel coated, with the right shade of color. You probably would...

1989 Sea Ray 200 BR Interior rebuild and new layout

Your motor well needs proper ventilation, for the blower to work properly. Gas fumes are heavier than air, so make sure the "sucking" duct is under the lowest part of the bilge, usually the engine, so it can suck out the fumes.

    Engine water flow issue

As Scott said, the water pump kits come with several gaskets. Some of those do not exactly match the ss wear plate, so make sure you used the correct ones. The water flow is from the gratings, thru the wearplate into the pump housing and then back down thru the wearplate and then out of...
