Might be dipping my toes back into boating

You might consider an outboard powered boat. Sterndrives are just about obsolete, with the rise of 450HP outboards. Sterndrive power requires a whole lot more maintenance than OB's, take up a lot of cockpit space and are real hard to work on vs OB's. Also, Cobra and V-P sterndrives are...

Deep Cycle Battery not good for starting??

Using a deep cycle battery to start a motor hurts the battery. The current 3 battery configuration you have now is just fine.

Rubbing Strake for 1980's 14ft 6 Sea Nymph

Are you talking about the rub rail around the perimeter of the gunwale? Taco makes them.

Have spark and fuel, can't get the rebuilt engine to start

Gee, if it won't fire or backfire with ether, the spark is way off. You might pop off the valve cover for #1 cylinder and verify the valves operate properly, and you are installing the distributor so it fires on/near TDC on the compression stroke.

    Trailer trouble

Do you have a chain that controls the max tilt of the trailer? Make the wires long enough to allow for that and bungee cord them to the frame. When the trailer tilts the bungee cord will stretch to allow the wires to move with the tilt.

1998 Johnson 115 hp v4 reverse low rpm

You might see if the throttle advances in reverse. My '98 Johnny 150HPV6 control needs some hard pushing to accelerate in reverse. Likely just dirt in the control.

    Info on Evinrude 115 E115TLETS

Gee, in 1993 synthetic oil was not even available. We also may have been using TCW-II in those days. Today's off-brand TCW-III oil is better than what the motor was designed to run on.

Possible water intrusion or lean sneeze?

My vote is water intrusion. I do not think raw gasoline alone would make the spark plug that clean.

    coast guard ratings plate

My CG capacity plate was real faded. However, it said 8 persons or 120 pounds, 200 hp max motor. There was some other stuff that I could not read due to the fading.

    coast guard ratings plate

I have a 1998 SeaSwirl 2100DC. I will get you the info the next time I crawl under the winter cover. Does that work? You could also ask on the Stripers Owners Forum (SOC.com).

    Lower unit gear oil type

For a 1988 Motor, any marine gear oil for mechanical shift motors is just fine. Wallyworld has their SuperTech brand, which I used for years. Get a lube pump that mates to a 1 qt bottle of gear lube. Don't forget to replace the gearcase plug gaskets. Fill the gearcase from the bottom, and...

Impeller Job - Mating Surface Corrosion

Gee, scrape off the old gasket material on the exhaust manifold and riser. Now, glue a sheet of new, fine sandpaper on a piece of plate glass and sand (in a figure 8) the mating surface's of the manifolds and risers smooth and flat. Now reinstall with MerCruiser gaskets that match the water...

I want to add a third toon of smaller diameter

Well, since you already have the center log, design some wooden, bolt-thru blocks so it's bottom will be in-line with the outer logs and give it a try.

Please be safe and don't forget to use your venting blower when fueling.

Gee, you stick your nose on the air outlet from the blower. It is usually one of the gratings on the side of the boat near the stern. I described the USCG recommended procedure. Look it up if you do not believe me.

    1993 Johnson 150 -- grinding in reverse

After you check the shift shaft height, and find it to be adjusted correctly, you might price out a new set of gears, seal kit and then compare that to the brand-new gearcases from Sterndrive Engineering (SEI). You will need to reuse your upper driveshaft, if you have the two piece style...

Please be safe and don't forget to use your venting blower when fueling.

Actually, the recommended USCG fueling procedure is to close all compartments and turn all electronics and blowers off. Next, fuel up. Now turn the blowers on and let them run for a few minutes. Sniff the air from the bilge before starting the engine.

    Info on Evinrude 115 E115TLETS

You can run any TCW-3 2 cycle oil in it, w/o issue. I run my '98 Johnny 150HPV6 on Wallyworld TCW-3 oil. It is $21.50 a gal.

If you do not want to have it welded, at least use pop rivets. They come in larger, stronger sizes like 1/4".

    Prop for Homemade Pontoon

Those pontoons look to be flat bottomed. Flat bottomed hulls plane all the time. Think air boats and Jon boats. When I was a kid we had a flat-bottomed wooden rowboat that planed with a 9.8 merc. Round bottom hulls are displacement hulls. Lifting strakes help a bit, but do not make them...
