    What Thrust Size Trolling Motor?

Yep, and when the current is too fast to troll forward, we back troll. 🙂

    What Thrust Size Trolling Motor?

For the rivers I fish, you have to have a big main motor to get you to the fishing spot. Then you need something for trolling. The big motor can't get you slow enough to troll, and would burn way too much gas anyway. So most all NWest Salmon Fisherman have a main and a kicker. Just for safety...

Fantastic! Now I know what I want for our 35th wedding anniversary. 🙂

    What Thrust Size Trolling Motor?

Have you used spotlock (anchor mode)? I'm thinking it would work the same. The kicker keeps the forward thrust for the river current, and the bow trolling motor would make up the difference to keep you in place. I've done it manually with just the kicker motor. Where I just maintain my location...

    What Thrust Size Trolling Motor?

Yeah, and for me, fishing faster current rivers for Salmon, using the 9.9 I already own, actually allows me to buy a bow mount trolling motor with less needed thrust. Allowing me to stick with 12 volt.

    What Thrust Size Trolling Motor?

What if my 9.9 has an alternator for charging? I have quite a bit of #2 Copper wire that I could run from my rear battery to my battery in front for the trolling motor to keep it charged up.

    What Thrust Size Trolling Motor?

That's what I've been reading. The kicker you set just under the speed you want to troll, and then use the bow trolling motor to steer. I'm thinking with that method I could get by with a 12 volt 55# thrust trolling motor.

    What Thrust Size Trolling Motor?

I'm seeing posts of ones using their kicker motor (I have a 9.9) for forward momentum, and then the trolling motor is up at the bow and is mainly used for steering and doesn't need as much thrust.

    What Thrust Size Trolling Motor?

I'm asking specific to us aluminum StarCraft owners but most the typical fishing forums boat owners have newer aluminum boats that weigh much more than are old StarCrafts. No matter how I crunch the numbers, my 18' Holiday fully loaded with 75hp 2-Stroke, 9.9 4-stroke, fuel, batteries, ice...

    What Thrust Size Trolling Motor?

How's that been working out for you? I'd really like one with anchor mode/spot lock, but going to 24v kicks you up to $2000. My thinking is I'd run my 9.9 kicker to assist propulsion, and the trolling motor for steering.

    What Thrust Size Trolling Motor?

    I kept feeling like I needed 80lb for my 18' Holiday with a 75hp Suzuki 2-Stroke, & a 9.9 4-Stroke, but I'd really like to get by with the largest 12v available.

    Seeing 360 Flasher on Fishfinder

Just bumping this up again with an update. I was able to get my helix to see my 360 flasher by setting my helix on the lowest khz setting and using heavier lead to get my gear closer to my boat while trolling, but it's a lot fainter than it shows up on my Garmin Striker with its lower frequency...

    '67 Holiday 18' - Make it Usable

I must have not sealed the holes that I made for the sacrificial nodes because I took in probably two or three gallons of water being out front 7am to 430pm. I'm going dumb about 5 gallons of water inside and see if I can see where the leak is.

    '67 Holiday 18' - Make it Usable

Checked the paint this morning. Other than being shiny, great match. I'm very happy with how the paint rolled on. My wife doesn't like the color, but I like how it's so nostalgic - the popular colors for that generation.

    '67 Holiday 18' - Make it Usable

I just wanted to get the corrosion on the bottom cleaned up, treated, and painted sooner than later. I hope to paint the sides this summer.

    '67 Holiday 18' - Make it Usable

I thought I had pics in here where I sanded, scrapped, and cleaned up the bottom and then primer. I hit a light spray coat with etching for the bare spots and then Sherwin Williams oil based primer. Today I painted the bottom with the Sherwin Williams color match mix, and I'm real happy with the...

    Painting Aluminum boat

I had Sherwin Williams match my boat color with their oil-base enamel. It goes on a little thinner than Rustoleum, but I feel better about using it at the temperatures we'll be having here for the next week. I didn't want to put it off too long, because I want to get out fishing.
