    Transom plate sealant question

Usually when metal plates are added the transom itself is rotted out . This would be the first thing I would verify ,one way or another . As far as sealant goes , 3m4200 is what I would use . It's the same as the 5200 except not permanent.

Suggestions on how to fill my onboard gas tank?

A shaker siphon hose will reach as far as you want. You can put the shaker device on any length hose as long as the portable tanks are higher than your boat ,gravity works . Start the siphon and you can stop it at any time at the tank it's going into , with zero spillage .

    Trim sender

I wouldn't even bother trying to fix it . If I'm in a boat with a working gauge , I never look at it . You should be able to feel what the hull is doing in relation to the trim of the drive . In most cases ,once on a plane , you trim up until you hear the rpms pick up to the point where it's...

    Hull damage while lifting? Donzi

Most hulls over 24 ' do not have " cross ribs " , usually a bulkhead serves that purpose. With a cabin type boat that is usually located right in front of the helm , or where the stairs are . It's pretty much the only location to tie the two sides together , besides the stern and bow . You...

    Hull damage while lifting? Donzi

The lifting points would be where the Z or I is in Donzi and between the aft and midship portholes , closer to the midship , as near as I can tell . Twin I/Os is going to have most of your weight in the stern . The stern strap should be pretty much under the engines. I don't think the Marina...

    Flood damaged Boat Lifts

3 D printer might be the answer . I'm sure there are people in your area that do that type of thing.

Need help finding controls for Mercury Sterndrive.

Have you verified current going to the switches and if so , current going to the pump ? I would be looking at the solenoid before the actual switches . They usually let go 1st . A volt meter or test light is something that should be in your tool bag when diagnosing electrical issues . Or you can...

    Old Cobia?

The " Cobia " decal could be the model ,not the MFG . Have you confirmed there are or are not any hull ID number's engraved on the transom ?

    Old Cobia?

Ok ,I'll bite , have you checked the upper right hand corner on the outside of the stern for ID engraved numbers ,letters ? That will tell us if it's pre 73 . As far as the gunwale goes , no idea why the gutter is there , can't think of anything it would be useful for if fishing . Clamming or...

    Pricing restored boats

You should research 1st before restoring a boat . There are very few aluminum boats that are desirable to a collector. Feather Craft comes to mind and you have to have the right model. Usually finned fiberglass hulls bring the most money. I'm thinking your set up is worth 1,000 - 1500. A 14 '...

    Crestliner Serial Number ID

Might try getting in touch with Crestliner and see if they have any info , records of the build . Boston Whalers " serial " number are interpreted for you by them , model etc . So there is a possibility Crestliner can do the same .

    4.3 spark arrestor replacements

So you don't want to spend a " boatload of money " . Does a 4 barrel carb ,400.00 and a new SSteel prop , 4-500.00 along with head gaskets , possibly premium gas equal a boatload of money for a 1988 set up ? You will need a new prop if you're bumping up your HP .

    Leaking from the hull

Replied late last night , the coupler is adjusted when the boat is in the water and water is " leaking " through the coupler . The fixed part is attached to the hulls shaft tube . The adjustment ring is closet to the transmission and compressed towards the shaft tube ( stern ) . There is a base...

    Leaking from the hull

Sounds like you have a dripless coupler ,that needs to be adjusted . Usually the water feed comes from the exhaust manifold. Or it could be Teed into a raw water hose . It is not Teed into a closed part of the cooling system that has anti- freeze running through it . I believe the Tides or PSS...

Stalling at Idle and Idle Speed

If your asking questions about your motor , which you are , it's motor related . So when pumping the primer bulb the engine ran ok ? If so , I would start out replacing at the very least the primer bulb . Myself , I would replace the fuel hose as well . If the bulb is breaking down , the hose...

Stalling at Idle and Idle Speed

I think you should post this in the Johnson/ Evinrude forum. Maybe post your rpm numbers at idle and if this is a new issue or you just bought the boat etc . Could be something as simple as turning up your idle to a carb rebuild .

    Affordable fuel injection intriguing

Unless you have cash and time to burn , the only upside to fuel injection, in your case is quicker starting . Fuel mileage and top speed will be the same . Everyone I know in the car industry that went with a Sniper have ended up taking them to a tuner $$ to get them to run correctly. Holley...
