87 Chris Craft I/O sources of water intrusion?

Shift cable bellows was also checked ? When was the last time these two bellows were changed ? The best way to check your main bellows is with your fingers , which means pulling the boat and popping the drive off. Your flashlight and mirror techniques are not quite 100 % accurate for various...

    Thru Hull Replacements

Is it a salt water boat kept year round in the water ? Is it a northern fresh water stored under tarp / shed for 8 months of the year boat ? There is a difference between the two. No doubt it may be overdue, especially if you don't know if or when they were swapped out by previous owners.

    Someone educate me.

Generally speaking the Pursuit is more of a pure fishing boat ( usually less beam for getting out in the rough stuff) vs the Tiara Which is more of a keep the 1st Mate happy with the cabin which is more spacious than the Pursuit . Both very well built and they command a high resale dollar.

Looking at a Wellcraft 3700 Martinique

They do make different HP configurations with the 7.4 so that is a factor. Your fuel burn is pretty much 1.0 mpg at cruise and drops further if your right hand gets heavy on the controls. Have a 32 x 13 ( 15,000 lbs empty and 20,000 under normal operations) lwith Tower and 454s. Doesn't matter...

Looking at a Wellcraft 3700 Martinique

If there straight inboard you will be underpowered, with or without people. I/Os and they may be ok. Ask the seller what cruising and wot speeds are and if in doubt take a sea trial if the boat checks off everything your looking for.

    mercruiser lower unit leak

You do realize that whatever excess grease was applied will weep for awhile . That would be my first guess . Usually water is drawn in to the lower unit when the outdrive is in gear , not when it's just sitting.

    Never again.. exhaust manifold..

What was wrong with the old bolts that you couldn't re-use them ? Or at least have the old ones when you go to the hardware store . Asking for a friend .

"Think we're gonna need a bigger boat"

Not every old boat needs a complete or even partial rebuild , period.

"Think we're gonna need a bigger boat"

Does this boat have the infamous 3.7 Mercruiser 4 banger ? I think the 5-10 budget for a rebuild is a stupid statement. Not every old boat requires a rebuild . Check for any soft spots on the decks , if anything is screwed into the transom ask the owner if you can unscrew a couple of the lowest...

    Do I survey a 25K boat

I say if your confident enough in your surveying skills , don't need a survey for Insurance , don't mind possibly getting burned with repairs and the 25k is pocket change to you, go for it.

What is teh make of this boat

What are the HIN digits ? Usually upper right hand corner on outside of transom is where they are "engraved " . That info will answer your question.

    Prop Advice

4500 and 5800 is too big of a spread for rated max RPMs . Usually it would read 5500-5800 Max Rpm. You have 8 peeps on that boat with no trim tabs and when you back off it comes off plane. This is due to the weight your carrying. It will not fall off plane with 3-4 on board in the same manner ...

    Alumacraft V14 with 9.9hp

Since you already have the 9.9 , keep it and try it . I do not think the 9.9 is going to get you and a full load of gear on plane and mix in 1 or 2 more adults and for sure your plowing water. Even the 20 will be cutting it close with 2 guys and a full load . I have a 14" FeatherCraft with a...

1986 SunRunner “The Big shark” My first boat

If I was doing a lot of cruising I would go with a 10-15 to 40--45 weight oil . Motors are under a constant load pushing that around and a heavier oil will perform better under the circumstances in your case. That's what I use in a few similar set ups , 305s -350s and 454s all get Castrol 40/45...

Radar Dome Install Trophy 2052 Hardtop

How are your handrails installed ? As in is there a exposed nut on the underside of the hardtop ? If so fasten the dome the same way , my guess is that it's hollow as the 3 hardtops I have are all hollow , Boston Whaler , Luhr's and Rampage [ as are Tiara's ] . Running angle is helpful but I...

    Buying a boat

A single engine straight inboard is not the boat for a first timer who wants to enjoy the lake . Cons far outweigh the Pros in this case . Starting with launching , having to be extra careful of depth because of the running gear and how it was designed vs a I/O or Outboard. Then you have...

    Fuel tank dimensions

Well since your going to have to remove the sending unit I would start there , and check the ground wire on the tank as that may be your issue. I know your boat is wrapped and in storage but if you want the correct one that's the way to go. The odds of someone on here having your boat model and...

    Boat slow after cleaning

In this case blaming the detailer is like blaming the Auto repair shop for your check engine light coming on and the car is running rough after you picked it up from having new tires put on.
