    Any advice for buying a temporary tachometer for tuning? (Tiny Tach, etc.) 3 cyl. Merc. 2-stroke None of my gauges work but I don't have time to deal with all of that right now.

    Lots of low-rpm running and/or excess oil mixed into the fuel can cause this. Also an obstructed air intake would cause a rich mixture. There's another thread here where a mud dauber built his home in an air intake. :-)

    115 mercury carb problems

    Sons o' bitches! I got a smoking deal on a Stihl chainsaw that a guy gave up on. You guessed it. Dobers had plugged the exhaust tube. Reamed that out and I had a like-new saw. You won't find this stuff in your repair manuals. :)

    True. Going richer shouldn't hurt anything except a bit more smoke and maybe fouled plugs. But I don't think we have enough info. from this person yet to send him into doing something that he's not even familiar/confortable with.

    If it was running good before then I wouldn't mess with the jets. I only mess with jetting when dealing with major changes in altitude or air temperature. If the problem seems to be engine temperature then I'd suspect the cooling system or the coils or compression. Is the impeller peeing water...

    Performance issues when hot is sometimes from the coils going bad.

    Mine is the old, all metal, push/turn type. But the concept is the same. The inside can get plugged up with crap. This may not solve the OP's problem but it's wise to check the easy/cheap things first.

    All above assume that your oil injection is working properly. Break-in method opinions vary almost as much as which oil to use. A quick search will have your head spinning wondering which method is "correct". ;-) There's also a school of thought that extra oil prevents the rings from breaking...

    If the qd were obstructed I don't think that anything would be viewable in your clear hose. It's not going to allow air intusion. It would just restrict how much fuel the pump can pull through it.

    "...and I assume fuel." You still haven't confirmed no blockage at the quick connector ball valve. Would take 15 minutes including cleaning if needed. If you don't want to check then I'll move on.
