    175 2 stroke wont rev past 2k

You didn't mention checking some of the simple stuff. Check fuel filter(s), check the condition of the inside the fuel lines, and check the ball valve at the quick connector. The inside of my fuel lines was degrading. There was a clear inner liner that was falling apart. I noticed a bit of it in...

    Enough horsepower?

I found the prop. # and it's a 10 5/8"diameter x 11" pitch. EzPartsWeb lists 10 5/8" diameter and 10" through 17" pitch for my engine. Should I be thinking about buying a 10" pitch? Or a 12"? With the 11" pitch it won't get on plane with 3 people on board and it struggles to pull someone on a...

    Thank you. That helps.

    Enough horsepower?

I appreciate the replies. I tried looking into prop. selection but I still have no clue how that works. Any advice on what direction to head with a new prop.?

    Enough horsepower?

This is a pretty heavy boat, though.

    Enough horsepower?

I suppose I should look into what prop. is, or should be, on there.

    Crappy hose

Here's the crap that was jammed in the quick connector. Like I said, it's like a liner from the inside of the fuel hose that was disintegrating.

    Now we know.

    Crappy hose

I don't know. I've only had the boat for a year. But the hose and primer bulb didn't look old or dry on the outside.

    Crappy hose

My engine wouldn't go full throttle. It would just bog. I changed the fuel/water filter and noticed a few small chunks of what looked like clear plastic hose. So I changed the fuel hoses and primer bulb. It still bogged so I figured maybe that crap also got into the carbs. so I spent 6 hours...

    Stand-alone tilt/trim pump

I thought I'd throw an FYI in here to hopefully help someone out. My pump is still leaking and I have to fill it once a month or so. It is always a pain and takes forever because the fill hole is so small. A funnel is futile and makes a mess. I killed my Mighty Vac I guess because the oil is too...

Which spark plug? (confused by EzPartsWeb)

Good info. Thank you. FYI, be careful searching for L76V plugs at NAPA. They claim that it interchanges with NGK #4838.

Which spark plug? (confused by EzPartsWeb)

I have a 1991? Mercury 70hp 3 cyl. Serial # 07187815. The EzPatsWeb says either AC#V40FFM or Champion#QL-76V The ones that are in it are NGK#BUHW. Are these all the same plug? And I thought the "newer" mercs ran BUHW-2 (wider gap). Opinions?

    Enough horsepower?

Thanks for the continued input. I never even got to the point of checking the other engine out. He sent some pics with the cowl off and it looked pretty rough. I think I saw some "handyman" fixes in there. I guess I'll hold out for something closer to a 140hp. and maybe try to double-check the...

    Enough horsepower?

Interesting. I am also surprised that it doesn't plane easier, being so wide and flat. But this is my 1st boat so I have nothing to compare it to. It is dry in all the under-deck cavities but I suppose there could be water intrusion somewhere that I'm not aware of and the inner foam could be...

    Enough horsepower?

That's my concern. But if the 110 can pull a (slalom) skier then I'd be content. And will not have had to put out any cash.

    They're both 1992-93 2-strokes, fwiw.

    Enough horsepower?

I won't even be bothering with the deal until I have an idea if going from 70hp to 110hp is worth the effort vs waiting for a deal on a 140hp.

    Enough horsepower?

I do know how to evaluate and maintain/repair engines. But I'm new to boating. Assuming good engines, will I notice a huge difference from 70hp to 110hp to 140hp on a 1,670 lb. tri-hull fiberglass deck boat?
