    Force 120hp Major Overheat

The force power if I not remember wrong there is a small cavity cast in the mid leg that catch a small amount of the cooling water and exhaust that leave the exhaust side of the block. That is why cooling water exit the relief holes even if you run the engine with or without the LU.

    Force 120hp Major Overheat

That proves there are no blockage in the block/water jackets. Change the impeller, one fin missing at the impeller. Theoretically you are loosing about 17% in the water pump performance with one fin missing. As you see it is important that the small screw at the back of the impeller housing is...

    Force 120hp Major Overheat

This is some long shot. Do not have a good clue but do you have the right impeller in it. It should be MTM89984 not MTM-3065 or 3056. From my experience it should spit more water out of the relief holes at the back when it idles. Looking at you first pic and I do not see the two small screws for...

    Spark Plug suggestions!

As I am in Sweden Europe, it is easier to find NGK than Champion. I have NGK BUX surface gap style in my Mercury 800 1972. I have also NGK surface gap style plugs and Champion UL18V (surface gap style too) in a couple of Chrysler 70-75Hp. Both brands have been good in my OBs.

1980's serial number / harness / general questions

Decals as racerone says 1976 and also 1977 (decals called "hockey sticks"). But in 1976 and 77 there was no 200Hp, the Black Max was 175Hp those years.

    Force 120hp Major Overheat

Not really hard to pull the power head off from the mid leg. 12 screws to remove the mid leg cover, 6 at the back and 6 in the bottom of the cowl. Then you can remove the nuts that hold the power head to the mid leg it is 10 of them. Disconnect all wires from the harness to the power head, the...

1964 Evinrude Starflite 70hp impeller change

To change the impeller you need to remove the LU. Pull it from the engine and for example put it in a vice. When removing and putting it back I would suggest you to use a floor jack. I use a floor jack when pulling and put back lager LUs.

    Hydraulic cylinder rebuild

Sorry but I do not know what pump you should buy if you have to change it. Search at Ebay for OEM pumps. If there are pumps on Ebay and they are Chines made, do not buy them! Starters for Chrysler/Force and made in China are crap, but cheap. Do not buy them, rebuild your OEM starter (Prestolite...

    Hydraulic cylinder rebuild

#Lou C that was a nice work, well done. T&Ts are often a PIA to deal with, change o-rings and seals can be done if you get it apart. The pump with all check valves, springs and steel balls is a no no in my opinion. #Captndrydock good luck with you work.

    Force 40 issues

The machine shop has to mill off the same amount of material at the edges until all three edges are clean and they are perpendicular. It is important that all three edges are even in size so that the dogs at the clutch and the gears are in contact when engaged.

    71/72 105hp Propeller Clearance Issue

Did the "new" LU come without the exhaust snout and you put the one from you cracked LU on it? I know there were two different snouts and the later LU from mid 70:es hade a snout which was shorter and had a steeper shape. When I check in my parts catalogs there are different part numbers...

Bman2895 have you pull the flywheel and check the points, cleaned them and set the gap and looked at the coils?

New to me 18 hp Evinrude.

Checking for good spark you need to se if it can jump 3/8 in or more in atmosphere. Checking for good spark with the spark plugs is not good enough. Then as Crosby says pull the flywheel and check. The coils at those old OMC are know as dry out over the years. If good coils then clean the points...

Captndrydock source for parts for your rebuilt is Franz Marine service. He might not have the Wiseco pistons if you have to change pistons. Franz was a dealer back in the days and now he is 80++ and want to sell out all and retire. He has or can give you advise where to find parts for your...

1980 9.9 hp Chrysler no spark-need some advice

tmcook this thread is 16 years old. Start a new thread about you issue. BTW The prime side of the ignition coil should read about 1-3 Ohm. Secondary side about 6-8 kOhm. No spark issue are often dirty points, clean and set them at 020 in. Also check the spring in the HT rubber boots for rust.

My flywheel came apart at the bottom where some metal blades are stacked together any idea why?

In my opinion you should be able to use the CDI stator with different triggers which are for Prestolite CD-modules. The trigger sends signal to the CD-modules to discharge the capacitor voltage to right ignition coil. The stator charge the capacitors in the CD-modules. The stator and the trigger...
