    Is this a fair price?

That's about $23K USD... not cheap for a boat of that age. Still, pricing is so local... and with the pandemic, used boats are going for top dollar. How does that compare with other boats you've seen in your area?

    Looking for first boat

21' would be possible with 6 total for days on the lake. I think you'll find it will get rather cramped, though. No way you'd want 8 in a 21' boat; you'd like exceed the weight limit with that many. And it would be like boating in can of sardines. Even 23' might feel tight with 8.

What to use to repair stringers

I'm not a big fan of using pressure treated wood... I've read too many accounts of people having problems with the fiberglass not adhering. I also would be concerned about the PT chemicals interacting with whatever metal is used for fasteners (e.g., to bolt the engine mounts down). PT would not...

    Garboard drain cover

I agree... no way he could know without checking. A number of members here would advise pulling the engine to check; pulling the engine really isn't that hard, but if you've never done it before I know it sounds pretty daunting. I am not a big fan of drilling holes from the outside, but...

    Looking for first boat

You are not going to be living right on the lake, correct? So when you go boating, will you and your passengers be confined to the boat for the duration? Will you beach the boat? To me, it makes a lot of difference whether you're confined to the boat for 6-8 hours or if you'll be disembarking...

    Project with my sons

Lots of folks here (myself included) have used US Composites.

    Looking for first boat

that is about the size and configuration of my boat. Think about where you would put eight people plus their gear in something that size. You could probably fit two upfront, two including the driver in the middle, and probably two in the back. Add coolers, a tube, a beach bag or two, and...

Won’t let me see it. Seems to have restrictions on who can view it.

Alpha One Upper Gears - Are there HD versions?

You will be fine, especially if you go light on the throttle. There are lots of 5.7s in front of Alpha Ones.

    Restoring a 1990 Larson

On mine, the drain in the carpeted ski locker was about 1” off the bottom, insuring the there always was water (and mold, eventually) in there. Not the cleverest of designs…

Looking for a place to get quality customizing and general repairs in NJ

Sorry... that’s a long from Illinois. if you hang out here very long, you find out that many people do their own work. I think it’s largely because of the problem you described.

    Looking for first boat

Six adults on a 21’ boat would be tolerable for a while, but if you’re thinking of spending an entire day on the boat with that many people, plus whatever gear they bring along, plus a tube, it’s going to be pretty cramped. We spend days on the river in our 19’er with 4-5 adults, a cooler, skis...

    Restoring a 1990 Larson

That seems like a much more sensible arrangement. Deck is looking good!

    1973-74 larson shark 1550

Wow, you have quite a project on your hands! Is that a tilt trailer? I can't tell much about how the boat is sitting on it, to be honest.

    Garboard drain cover

I'd drill some test holes from the inside, one on either side of drain and one above the drain, about 2" away. If the shavings come out light and dry, you're good (and lucky!). If the shavings are dark and/or wet, go out another 6" and drill again. If those shavings are dark/wet, you have some...

    Possible Business

I don't know where you're located, but in my area, there are not a lot of options for getting boat motors repaired, outboards or otherwise. I've been to a few of the places in our area and I was not impressed with the quality of the work. I'd love to find somebody like you, if you did good work...

    New to boating, first restoration

Sorry to say, but knocking on things will tell you nothing. You really need to drill test holes and inspect the shavings for moisture or rot.

    Restoring a 1990 Larson

Getting to stand on a solid deck is a milestone! It also make subsequent work a lot easier! It's great to see this boat coming together!
