How do I get that last inch?

If you look closely, you can see the strap on mine is almost horizontal, I like this pivoting winch bumper design, never have had a problem with it as long as it's adjusted to the correct height.

2012 3.0L TKS runs great with muffs, but slow on lake...

I'm wondering if you can have enough pressure but not enough volume. Pressure only needs to be adequate enough to keep the float bowl full, but think about how much GPH increases from idle/low speed to planing/WOT. 2-3x as much.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Very interested to see this project progress as somone who has also lived with sterndrives with a boat moored in salt water for 20+ years as well. The boat I have was actually available with outboards although probably few were sold way back then. Actually a 200 Hp 4 stroke would probably move...

How do I get that last inch?

That makes sense I can see that the steeper the ramp is the more likely it is to happen. Maybe not as common on roller trailers due to the articulating roller bars….

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Even New England doesn’t usually get snow till mid to late December….we have not had a “real” winter here in Long Island in 7/8 years. Little snow. We do have a nor’easter coming tomorrow though….

Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

If you own it & someone else gets hurt using it you’ve opened yourself up to a lawsuit. They sue the operator & the owner. PI Lawyers = ruthless vultures!

How do I get that last inch?

I think with a single bump stop it should be above the bow eye so it doesn't catch when launching the boat I would raise the winch to try to get the strap level.

2012 3.0L TKS runs great with muffs, but slow on lake...

you have enough fuel pressure, but your low WOT RPM might be a lack of fuel volume....that could be a sticking anti-siphon valve on the tank, or a pick up tube that has crud getting pulled against the screen at the bottom of it. Any inboard I think is going to have an anti siphon valve unless...

    Is this engine oil good?

No one can really say. If you run it do a Blackstone oil analysis and then you’ll know. I’ve had good results with both the conventional Merc 25/40 & syn blend 25/50. I do an oil analysis at the end of each season.

Engine, Carb or Prop? need suggestions or ideas please.

that would be great, I do think this size hull did come with that as an option (F/W 201 Liberator used the same hull as the 200 Horizon) could be had with a 454/King Cobra but then I'd have to upgrade the drive too. I think a good running 5.7 4bbl would make a huge improvement and the only NEW...

Engine, Carb or Prop? need suggestions or ideas please.

Just thought I'd add: anti siphon valve? pick up tube in the fuel tank? Interested to see what you find out! I have the 4.3 4bbl Qjet as well my 88 F/W H-200 has a 1:68:1 Cobra drive, I have used a 15x17 that gets me to about 4600 and a 15.5x15 which gets me to 5000. Boat is quite heavy for a...

    Bellow condition??

Triple guard is good as well. In my OMC factory shop manual it mentions using the Evinrude/Johnson/OMC gasket sealer on all bolts that are submerged, but I use em on thermostat gaskets & bolts, anything that is subject to moisture. I have found that both the Merc Perfect Seal and the OMC gasket...

    Bellow condition??

I started using it on my vehicles too; water pump & thermostat housing bolts etc….

    Bellow condition??

When you get the hole tapped, coat the threads on the bolts with something like Evinrude gasket sealer or Permatex Aviation. I have been doing this for 20+ years in salt water and every bolt that I install this way, comes out. It's like magic! The sealer doesn't get hard and seals out water so...

    Trailer Load musings

The author of the article has a very interesting video of how torsions can be made to load share with what's called the walking beam design. No reason why this couldn't be used other than cost. The reality is that the trailer companies are using torsions now almost exclusively. If you wanted a...

    Bellow condition??

I'm not sure about the Volvo but the Cobra gimble housing has a groove in it and the bellows has a ridge in the sealing surface, that ridge has to go in the groove and the clamp has to have the screw end properly positioned so it doesn't cut the new bellows. All that is easier with the pivot...

    Bellow condition??

Even with the soft rubber version it’s better to remove the pivot housing to make sure that you have the gimble housing end of the bellows properly seated on that flange. Also removing the bolts for the pivot housing helps with then not getting seized up. On the Volvo you’d have to disconnect...

    Trailer Load musings

I share your opinion Bruce, I think they’re overpriced and un-repairable whereas changing springs on a spring axle is easy and inexpensive (like $170 for a good pair of 5 leaf springs). And on multi axle trailers they don’t load share. I think trailer companies like them because they might be...

    boat trailer calipers vs auto

I would coat the dust boots for the piston with silicone disc brake grease to try to keep water out. Each season do that and lube the caliper sliding pins. Flushing out the brake fluid every 3 seasons or so could help as well. Despite anti corrosion coatings on calipers the real issue is that...

    Trailer Load musings

In many cases trailers seem to have only 10% safety margin meaning that the tires are loaded to 90% of their full capacity when the trailer is carrying its rated load. Vehicles have more like 25%. If you had the room to do so, one thing you could do is go to the largest diameter wheel you can...
