We do a lot of automation upgrades. A lot of the old stuff still out there, mainly because nobody knows how it works anymore. Had a customer a while back asking us to integrate with his GEM80

    Just keeps going right

Helped people out with this problem twice. 1. Installed 25” motor on a 20” transom. 2. Showed them how to trim the motor properly. Torque should all but disappear when properly trimmed.

Wiring positive cable from Amps to battery or common on Switch?

“Master” switch should shut everything off on the boat except bilge pumps which are wired direct to the battery Not necessarily. Most switches anymore are “make before brake” switches…the new connection is make before the old is terminated. .

    Mystery bolt found in bilge

I disagree. The pitch at the Major looks pretty consistent. Flanged head, black oxide bolts are almost always hardened, typically grade 8. They don’t stretch, they break. I agree with the others…..the alternator would be my first guess.

    Fuel for older Evinrude/ Johnson

Two of my three vehicles are turbo GDI. I see a slight bump running 93 octane (compression over 10:1) but gas mileage has held steady since a slight increase after break in. In both cases, your 12% would be roughly 2.2 to 2.5 miles to the gallon. Pretty sure the check engine light would come...
