    Suzuki lower units

Is there an alternate source for Suzuki lower units? I ordered one 5 weeks ago that FedEx or one their contractors appears to have lost. Can’t pay another $3800 even if Suzuki has gotten another in stock. Mercury, Yamaha and OEM can be sourced through SEI but I haven’t come across anything for...

    Engine alarm won’t stop

I didn’t get a chance to work on it today. I spent the morning studying the manuals I could find. I had to babysit the grand-babies this afternoon. At this point I pretty much assume I need a trim position sensor but there is no way to get one before the weekend. I won’t actually order one...

    Engine alarm won’t stop

I finally got the engine running again. Had to pull spark plugs and locate TDC for the #1 cylinder. The distributor was 180 degrees out. Beeping frequency changed but did not go away. I couldn't get the local Volvo Penta shop to take a couple of minutes to hook up a code reader once all summer...

Do you use Loctite on your lower unit bolts?

My experience with red loctite is that it isn’t uncommon for it to take heat, as in torch, to break it loose so I am with you on your choice not to use it. I wonder if that parts manual has a misprint. It would be nice to hear from a certified Mercury mechanic on this.

Do you use Loctite on your lower unit bolts?

What does the manual actually say? I don’t have a Mercury manual but I know the Suzuki manual calls for thread sealer instead of thread locker in those places. Fairly certain Yamaha does too. The only “certified” boat mechanic I watched do an impeller didn’t put anything on the threads.

    Uncommanded tilt up

The motor is a 2015 Mercury 150 HP 4-stroke. It started going full up on it’s own a couple of weekends ago. When I was called to the boat I used the throttle to trim it all the way down but it came all the way back up as soon as I released the switch. I then used the switch on the motor and it...

Fuel coming out VST vent hose

I got lucky this morning. Someone offered to help me tow the boat and was able to use a boat that had to come off the lake anyway. So, possible stupidity was averted. The boat with the VST issue spent a week in the shop a year ago with the same problem and the mechanic told me he wouldn’t be...

Fuel coming out VST vent hose

This is a generic engine question prompted by a Suzuki DF250. The VST vent is pumping raw fuel into the air intake which in turn floods out the engine. I know there is a VST issue and have one ordered but the boat is on the lake 3 miles from the nearest boat ramp and swapping out a VST is not...

Is it feasible to straighten a prop shaft?

Don’t get me wrong. My preference by far is to replace it but it’s coming up on 6 months waiting for the order to come in with no updates on the status from Suzuki. I had the lower unit for that boat on order for a month before I was able to source a replacement from another dealer 300 miles...

Is it feasible to straighten a prop shaft?

I may take a stab at it. I have a press and a dial indicator. I can easily make the V-blocks out of steel or wood. I can’t think of a better way to get experience and the owner knows the situation with getting a new shaft. I could actually practice on the one from the old lower unit. It hit a...

Is it feasible to straighten a prop shaft?

2017 Suzuki DF200A mounted on a 2017 Crest tri-toon. Definitely happened in the water. I am the only one who has trailered that boat all year. I pulled it out this time for general servicing. As soon as I put it in reverse to back out of the slip I knew something was bent. Boats shouldn’t shake...

Is it feasible to straighten a prop shaft?

The title says it all. Brand new lower unit in July that a renter bent the shaft on in September. Have had the lower unit disassembled and sitting on the bench ever since waiting for a shaft that I can’t even get a status on. Stainless prop doesn’t show any impact damage. I have seen some...

    Yamaha F150 tilt/trim limiter

The actual switch didn’t mount quite as easy as it appeared it would. The steering cylinder had to be removed. I probably didn’t do that the best way possible. There isn’t enough room to install the bolt in the steering arm when the switch is installed so I had to leave the switch mount bolts...

    Yamaha F150 tilt/trim limiter

I finally got a chance to go back out and have a second look. The connection is pretty well hidden on the F150. That’s it wrapped in yellow tape next to the oil filter and behind the starter cables:

    Yamaha F150 tilt/trim limiter

I bought one of these limit switches today and took a quick look at the boat to see what the installation will take. The switch mounts easy enough but I didn’t see where to plug in the wires. I followed the harness from the trim switch on the side across the bottom of the cowl to the main...

    Pontoon parts?

I may be looking at this too critical. I wanted to duplicate what was there for the missing door but it may suffice just to weld up a rectangle with a couple of tabs on each side to attach the panel. Or I could buy a little extra and put a couple of cross bars and leave it open. My bender will...

    Pontoon parts?

Does anyone know where to source the materials? I have been searching for the aluminum tube but can’t seem to find anything close to what I am looking to match on the boat. The tube has some sort of extruded pinch tab to hold the panel.

    Pontoon parts?

I have a 2013 Silver Wave in the fleet I manage. Very nice boat but one of the users let a tube blow out hit and the rear gate. The gate went to the bottom of the lake and now I cannot find a replacement anywhere. Silver Wave doesn't support anything more than 6 years old. I only found one fence...

    Engine alarm won’t stop

Did that many times as well as tweaked the location of the oil pump shaft to allow the distributor to drop in at the different locations. New distributor doesn’t go in the same as the old. Maybe a quarter tooth off at the closest location. Haven’t done very many distributors but have stabbed...

    Engine alarm won’t stop

I half expect an issue. The rotor didn’t line up exactly the same.
