    The numbers are all in a tight window, that is good. Your gauge is either reading 30 psi high or you have water or oil in the bores Where did you source the carb?

    Thru the input shaft seal. When you pull the drive, you will most likely dump a quart of water/lube emulsion from the bellows/u-joint area. You may need new u-joints as well

    Tapping doesn't reveal anything. For it to sound hollow, takes decades after the rot starts. Take a test drill and check the shavings. FLIR camera will help. Also, weigh the boat and compare to spec.
