    I think I've seen less than .003" listed in Volvo's instructions, not sure what Merc says. My Barr set were less than that, barely .001"

    I recall it being mentioned on here that Barr Marine casts the parts for VP, no reason to pay extra for VP IMO. I installed my in ‘17 they are still holding up well & will prob replace the elbows this fall.

    I put in a Sierra about 5 years ago no leaks and works fine. Think is was S Korea made. I also have a spare Carter that is USA made. When I installed it I used either Permatex or OMC gasket sealer.

    Volvo Penta recommended syn 10/40 in the same GM marine engines that Merc used so I’d think it should be fine

    That or silicone spray, I have checked mine without having to remove the elbows as well. Kinda depends on how long they've been on there. Here in the salt pond they get taken off every 5 years…

    Since the Guardian was active due to exhaust overtemp, I'm wondering if there could be some clogging in the exhaust elbows. Not sure how long the new style exhaust elbows last in salt water but the boat is '16 that means that it has done 7 seasons? Was it used each season? I haven't heard a lot...

    I think the SX series has the trim motor mounted inside the boat usually on the port rear side.

    You can’t really tell till it’s all cleaned up, I would dress the surfaces with a mill bastard file & check for flatness with a straight edge & feeler gauges. I think Volvo says less than .003” variation. Get the Volvo OEM gaskets & follow their instructions.

    Is there a way to tell if the impeller is working?

    Impellers work when they are either immersed in water or pressure fed water. They do not suck water, they move it when it is present in the impeller housing.

    It’s a private beach Assn. Keeps out the riff raff. Costs me $350 a year to moor my boat in a 100% safe moorage that’s literally walking distance from my house. No trailering no jerks at the ramp etc

    The problem with trim senders is that they aren’t really water proof.
