    Backup temperature gauge+sensor (digital)

Unlike auto and I/o that cools the block using a secondary water pump, an outboard runs a single loop through the heads and back overboard The only way you can overheat is to loose water pressure which is why outboards come with pressure instead of temp gauges Alarm the loss of water pressure...

    Backup temperature gauge+sensor (digital)

Install a water pressure gauge instead. Pressure gauges let’s me know I have a problem in the raw water cooling long before an overheat situation occurs. Can actually see the thermostats looking and closing. Lets me monitor long term pressure, let’s me know when it’s time to change the impeller

    safety or not safety wise?

In theory but not practice......the conditions requiring signally are limited in scope to those outside normal operating practice/etiquette and thus are used very infrequently. Locally, if a Captain needs your attention they hail you on VHF. As would be confused as well given I don't know...

Baltimore bridge hit by ship, collapsed

Pilots are required to be onboard once a vessel enters the mouth of the Bay at Virginia Beach. Have had 3 run aground in the past 15 years and now this. First one cut of the corner at Sharps Island and in bedded itself 40' into the face of the bar a 1/2 mile off course. The last one ran...

Mercury outboard power trim won’t work under load

Are you sure it’s supposed too? Can’t say on smaller units, but on larger units trim and tilt (trailer) are different functions. Tilt function is disabled above X rpm

    safety or not safety wise?

While I’ve had to replace my horn once due to corrosion, I’ve never once actually needed to use it in the 27 years I’ve owned the boat. Having said that, I’ve not heard a horn used in years.

port battery dies when on a charger? Already killed 3 batteries

Not sure where you’re going with this. Typically the starter cable is connected directly to the battery of thru the battery on/off switch. If the starter(s) is the source of the leak they are shorted internally and must be replaced

port battery dies when on a charger? Already killed 3 batteries

You have a huge current link which shouldn’t be that hard to find. The usual suspects are starters and bilge pumps. Disconnect the large wire feeding the starters. At battery switch or starter, whichever is easier. Trim the bilge pump(s) off at switch

prop recommendations for Trophy walk around 25 foot

The motor upgrade was a 275 so you figure somewhere right around 300 hp. Twin 150’s preferred for redundancy.

prop recommendations for Trophy walk around 25 foot

Kind of irrelevant since he hasn’t been back, but I’m going from a different angle. Something wrong with his prop or engine setup. He’s under powered for a 25’ boat. Found a performance bulletin for his boat with a 300 Hp Verado running a 17”, 3 blade. I’m running basically the same setup on a...

Will i need to add a battery switch

Im running the same setup. Whats confusing? The switch is a simple on/off/combine for use with an ACR There is no need to switch between batteries (battery 1/battery 2) since the ACR handles the charge function. Otherwise, it operates like a normal battery switch

    Bunk Boards or Guide Poles?

The problem you run into with these types of discussions is we’re comparing apples to oranges to pears. What works “best” for a 14’ Jon boat isn’t going to work well for an 28’ offshore boat with a lot deadrise to accommodate. On top of that there are a lot of different bunk designs on the...

    Bayliner Trophy Bilge pump question

Accept the reality that bilge pumps are only there to remove runoff from the deck that accumulates in the bilge and focus on maintaining the systems that account most sinkings….failure to install drain plug, leaking thru-hulls, outdrive boots, and raw water cooling system Personally, I have a...
