    Trim Switch Malfunction

There is a 7/16 " bolt head up there above the bellows and a plate that pushes the limit switch and trim sender wiring in and seals it. Yes you can do it and if you go to you tube there is a video of a guy doing just that...but you can also jumper it out inside and go boating...

Mercruiser 5.0L two barrel Carb Leak?

A dirty flame arrestor will cause it to run richer same as if the choke is stuck open... Does the fuel drip off the booster at idle. Some where between 1200-2000 rpm the booster will start flowing fuel. I think on my GTO with Rochester 2bbl ( older brother of the mercarb) its is about 1800 rpm...

    Trim Switch Malfunction

If you have to use the trailer button to go up the trim limit switch on the port side of the drive is bad. They are kind of a pita to replace you can just insert a jumper wire where it comes in the boat and attaches to trim harness. Just need to remember not trim up to far while at speed...

    Mercruiser 5.0 carb?

That has a knock sensor module is the sensor or module non functional and causing it to go into timing retard mode constantly? Unfortunately the nimrods at merc set this up to need like 9 v supply from knock module to the ignition module to keep it fro retarding timing. Below is an except from...

    2004 Chaparral Sunesta 216 engine not starting 5.0 L

As mentioned above likely not getting fuel due to filter change. Would also verify you are getting spark. since you changed cap wouldn't be the first time a new part was defective or wire from coil got left off

    Gear lube in hull

Here is a link to the stickies on pressure testing a drive https://forums.iboats.com/threads/drive-pressure-vacuum-check.230980/ input shaft seal is where the driveshaft comes into the upper drive. When you took your drive out the drive shaft has splines on the end with two u-joints. You have...

    Gear lube in hull

Yes if bellows fill up from input shaft seal leak they will end up in the bilge as the bellows gets full. There is a drain hole from bellows into the bilge. It is not a ton of work to do the input shaft seal. You need the merc spanner (or aftermarket copy) to take the big nut off the drive...

    Mercruiser 5.0 carb?

This is not in base mode correct ? Module needs replacement then. You have the thunderbolt V ignition which is fantastic unless u need a new module. Would look for a used module on eBay. I have bought them for around $200 used. New they are expensive enough that people will replace the entire...

    Trim/Gear oil mixup

Doubt it will make much diff or this lube even get to the outdrive, but I use a turkey baster for things like this- suck the reservoir dry. Every couple years I use it to change out my trim fluid - suck it out and refill, run it up and down, refill etc

GM EST Distributor Kit and Mercruiser Shift Interrupt Switch

If you get the wiring instructions for the est they will have you pick up a 12 v source like the purple igntion wire, run it through the shift interrupt and to the est distributor. When you shift out of gear and the shift interrupt switch gets closed it will send 12 v to est module to stumble...

    Mercruiser 5.0 carb?

It has a reman label on it. Not uncommon to see rebuild shops offering older rochester 2 jets as mercarb replacements. The mercarb was what merc started making when rochester got out of the carb business in late 80 s early 90 s. They are basically siblings. Properly set up should be ok assuming...

    Old 488 replacement idea

3.0 is most drop in but will give up some power5 hp. 4.3 is more work potentially but makes similar or more power than a 488. what size boat is it in?

    Mercruiser 5.0 carb?

Was looking for the total advance on the ignition. Wondering if module is not advancing. You should have a total advance of around 28-30 degrees by 3 k or so rpm. 10 degrees is correct for a vortec 5.0. yours is a 220 hp engine if you have a 1.62 drive the 19” should work fine If engine is in...

    Mercruiser 5.0 carb?

You say factory prop- what pitch is it and what gear ratio do you have in the prop. What is the total amount of ignition advance you have and what do the spark plugs look like ? Would also think you are heading for a carb rebuild but would verify what prop is on it as it may have to much...

    No spark issue

You see a fair number of comments on Pertronix failing. Never had any first hand experience but might be worth a internet search. I see this a lot on the classic car forums I'm on. Delco EST is tried and true OEM quality system

Pre-Alpha drive won't go into reverse.

This above when you split the halves to do the impeller east to misalign the shift shaft that is cotter pinned in the upper with the splines shaft in lower. Upper shift shaft needs to be straight ahead and lower shaft needs to be I think turn all the way clockwise to be in fwd

    2005 Bayliner 175 Mercury 3.0 Mercruiser i/o - Stalling

I mixture screw not idle speed screw. Idle mix screw is on throttle plate turning it in allows less fuel at idle turning it out allows more fuel at idle. The idle speed screw you reference is the stop that the throttle seats against this determines how far the throttle plates are open at idle...
