You can use the block and heads. You need a whole bunch of marine bits to make it work. You are no further ahead than your 1984 block and heads

There have been about a hundred outboard conversions started on iBoats. About a dozen completed, about 1 or 2 that came out well. The transom must be reinforced to use a pod As for your existing motor, other than the short block, there is nothing that could be used if you convert to an SEI...

unfortuneately, fiberglass boats older than 15 years old should be considered projects. all will need work. a boat restoration is iffy at under 10k as Bondo stated, find a junk boat with a good motor. (mid 90's forewinns bayliners, searays, etc.) and get the whole thing for $2k or less...

Boat manufactures use motors they have in the warehouse. For example. GM quit building the 8.1 Big Block in 2008. Yet they were being installed in new boats as late as 2014 Your motor is a 1981-1984 vintage that had a stringer drive

Pretty sure I was sent Gen VI, not Gen V 454

Gen V timing cover and Gen VI only differ by number of bolts Gen V has 10 bolts Gen VI has 6 Your boat doesn't have an EGR, so the EGR port in the head never comes into play. Gen V head do not have EGR ports. Gen V heads only fit Gen V blocks. Gen VI blocks will take all Gen VI heads, and...

Pretty sure I was sent Gen VI, not Gen V 454

A heat exchanger means the motor has ethylene glycol running thru it vs raw lake water. From a winterizing point of view, much easier. From an operational temperature point of view, less engine wear, better efficiency Your old motor was frozen up for a reason.

    Conversion advice

If you had the big square hole, the boat had a stringer drive Basically nothing related to that motor, drive, controls is really compatible with the SEI drive other than the short block. The best conversion is to remove everything OMC and get a 1992 or newer Mercruiser long tail (motor and...
