a carburetor shouldn't spill fuel like this, right?

Merc spec is 4-7 psi which is normal range for carbed engines for the last 65 years. He may have the wrong pump or cheap aftermarket pump that has too much pressure. Carter makes two universal fit marine pumps that put out 4-6 and 6-8 psi respectively. It’s what Michigan motorz supplies on their...

If you look at attached screen shot of my 04 200 sport parts manual it shows in each of the 5.0 engine combos on last line in engine shows rsr. The 4.3 options dont have that . Must be with extra weight on stern they wanted risers. Is not your cause as u havent splashed yet. Do the pressure...

    Required HP for slalom skiing

I don't think you can get a 5.7 in these anymore Merc is going from the 4.5 /250 hp to their (not GM 6.2) to the op - is the 250 the biggest engine? Would think you will be ok but might want to get a ski prop. I was surprised skiing behind my neighbors Larson 208 w a 4.3 mpi (220 hp) yanked...

What is your current WOT rpm with the mirage? As stated above really very different applications and props. Bravo 1 doesnt seem to be available in pitches lower than 22" , also seems like a go fast prop not a tube puller . https://www.mercurymarine.com/en/us/propellers/elite-series/bravo-i/...

Is this an alpha drive or bravo ? If alpha would disconnect the shift interrupt switch see if it goes in gear without dying If it goes in without dying with switch disconnected would think you need a lower shift cable

    Accurate Horsepower Figures

If the boat was a 5.0 originally most 5.0's I've seen take a 1.62. Only higher HP like MPI in lighter hulls seem to get the 1.47 drive. Agree with other HP assessments. Your original 2 bbl 5.0 would have been 220 hp. Your 5.7 with MPI or 4bbl carb would be 290 /300 hp. With a 2 bbl 250/260 is...

a carburetor shouldn't spill fuel like this, right?

You can use a simple fuel pressure gauge, oftentimes places like autozone will rent them to you . Biggest issue you will have to rig up a T to test it. Merc makes a test fitting but it is a little salty for one time use ... Fuel line is 3/8" double flare fitting, probably rig up a fitting to...

They should be willing to run and water test the boat. If not assume there are issues. your list of look fors is pretty good. Issue is with no load on the hose doesnt mean much. Conversely if yiu have a successful water test the boat should sell for more. When i sold my old boat 7 years ago i...
