    thats because in neutral, it will rev to redline running on 2 cylinders with a drop of fuel. in gear and under load, the motor needs fuel. a flat spot in the power output is a fuel system issue.

    the motor is going to be the least of your issues. how is the transom and stringers? as for the motor, look in salvage yards for a motor to rebuild. and rebuild it. talk to your local engine builder. you are looking for a 1962-1980 chevy 250 with separate head/intake.

    Any of the thread lockers or permatex #3 would work. teflon tape can work, however you have to be careful not to get any bits of the tape in the pump.
