    Is it possible one of the rubber insulators that goes between the coupler and flywheel got knocked off during assembly ? Might be worth popping off flywheel cover before buying a new one

    When it won’t start back up do you have spark ? If not would check shift interrupt or disconnect it to test( won’t come out of gear though) If you have spark dump a little gas down the carb if it fires for a bit then it’s fuel related Just need to determine if you have spark issue or gas issue

    Only time ive seen that is when i had the coil wire off the cap was testing spark and didnt have it grounded so coil energy had no where to go. Would look at your cap and rotor as i assume the spark is looking for somewhere to go also inspect the wire replace as needed but i think u are loosing...

    As long as you mark where you were before adjusting you can always put it back and be no worse off. one issue i ran into adjusting mine (2003) is the barrel nut was factory peened onto the cable thread So you cant adjust it.

    Likely your cable or linkage in bell housing is hanging up causing delayed shift Into gear and tripping the interrupter I would disconnect the lower cable at shift plate should slide in and out easily with two fingers You can try adjusting it like this video Again likely with age of boat...
