Slow plane at high altitude 5.0L MPI, please help

The 5 liter is not known as Torque Monster at the best of times, and 5000+ft isn't helping. At least with FI, the ECM should take the thinner Air into account. Are the Props 'Vented'? That can help the weaker in the Torque dept. engines

    Mercury 1150 115hp(1977 I believe)

I meant that more as Joke. That said, when you bought it, there was no Serial # on the Receipt? Take a Spark Plug out. Does it look like a regular Spark Plug or is it a surface gap? In 66 Mercury started using surface gap plugs You will find, that the Parts people will always want a Serial...

    Mercury 1150 115hp(1977 I believe)

That motor may be a little on the Hot side, even when not running One thing's for sure. it is not a 115. Likely a 100hp or a 90hp. - 1965 if a 66, then the choices are 110 and 95 67 is out of the running, in 67 they only had a single Ignition Coil

"Tiawan stuff has far better quality comming out of there country" I would beg to differ, my latest Nikon, a D850, made in Taiwan, is the worst DSLR I have ever owned, it is a Real piece of Fecal Matter. It has been sent back to Nikon, twice. They claim it meets "Factory Tolerances". If it...

Poor punctuation caused that. 1991 20HP Evinrude no acceleration

OMC hasn't used Shear Pins since the early 50s. They did use Drive Pins of Stainless Steel, for many years after, but in 1968 started to transition to Splined Shafts and Hubs. In most cases the Props had Rubber Hubs to protect the Shift Mechanism, in some motors they used a coiled Slip Spring...
