raising and lowering with a manual tilt 1960 Johnson 40HP

The sliding one(starboard bracket) was called tilt lock, the clamp screw(port bracket) was refered to as the trailering lock. I have only ever seen a couple of engines that had the clamp screw lock.

    78 HYDRASPORT 17.9 150HP V6 PROP HELP

Well the cowl is a 79. The boat is a bass style boat. On those boats the engines were mounted quite high. The hull ends considerably forward of the transom, if I'm not mistaken, sort of like a built in transom offset. Which does permit a higher height. Until you are sure where the...

    78 HYDRASPORT 17.9 150HP V6 PROP HELP

23 Cleaver 4500rpm 21 unknown 4750 rpm Cleaver props are stern lifters and are great props for competition tunnel hulls where the risk of the boat catching too much air will flip it over. But are not the best choice for bass boats Chopper Props were popular on bass boats in the 70s and early...

    Props for OMC 15

That doesn't look like any jet drive I've ever seen for an outboard, this thing, whatever it is, retains the stock lower unit and adds an enclosed impeller with a lot of added drag, with none of the shallow water benefit of a jet drive This what every jet conversion pump I've ever seen looks...

1966 Johnson vs newer models with flow through exhaust

It is comparing apples to oranges 1966 20hp@4500rpm 22 cu in 4000 - 5000 rpm 21:12 gear ratio 9" - 9 14" dia props snout exhaust mid 80s onward 20 hp@5000 31.8 cu in 4500 - 5500 rpm 28:13 gear ratio 10" - 11 1/4" dia props thru hub exhaust The non thru hub props were better when the engine...

    Another prop issue

Don't worry about the 125hp straining the boats transom, the max torque between it and an 85 is pretty close(the 125 only had 7 more cubic inches of displacement than a 1969 -78 85hp), it does occur at a higher RPM, so the 85 actually has better holeshot. You say you spun the hub? How did you...

    Prop for 1963 75hp Evinrude

The gearcases on most of the Pre1969 V4s of less than 100hp were a bit of an oddity. The props were actually smaller in Diameter than those used by the 25, 28, 30, 33, 35, and 40hp engines of the day. These engines had very little gear reduction in the gear case, 23:20. There were only 5...

Evinrude 40973R 40HP Selectric Shift - Forward Spring and Gear Hub - Slipped?

Just out of curiosity, what is the measurement of your boats transom? Looking at the parts I would say it was run, at some point, with a lot of water in the oil, or just too low of an oil level. It might just be the light, but the teeth on the gear look pitted on one face and a bad contact...

Power loss in 1977 Johnson 6HP (1/2 power possibly)

The vent and fuel valves in the tank are opened when this pin(white arrow) is pushed in by the hose connector. You probably need a new fitting, or new tank

I have an intake LEAK! looking for good replacement intake!

Get a set of Vortec heads and the intake Volvo uses on the 305/350 engines. It is a four bbl manifold but Volvo uses it with 2bbl Holleys as well. Very good manifold.
