    if you have the bore at the top, and know the ring gap at the top, you can then measure 3-4 points down to get taper I personally like to take the bore gauge and measure side to side, then rotate 90 and take same readings. that give me taper and eggality

    Clymer manuals make bad toilet paper and worse manuals. You will need the Volvo manual. https://www.volvopenta.com/en-us/service-and-support/your-engine/manuals-and-handbooks/ Being that old, you will have to call them (only manuals for after 2000 are on their website)

    The mark 4 pistons didn't change for GM much between 1968 and 1989. There are basically the lower CR dished used in the 70s and the flat tops. Measure the bore in 3 locations with a bore gauge

    post #12 had the carb number Carb is 4bbl Holly 1850-5. Numbers on the horn are 1850-5 1692 its a 600 CFM Holley Street carb with brackets for the kick-down linkage

    fuel pressure will point out the Anti-Siphon or pickup tube filter as issues if there is no fuel pressure at anything over idle.

    what are you trying to do besides lighten your wallet and add a shiny bit to your engine compartment? your current flame arrestor already flows more air than the motor needs assuming its clean and yes, the vapor tubes get clipped to the air cleaner.

    what color are the plugs. new isnt a color. white, coffee, or black. if your plugs are white, you are way way too lean. measure the rocker arm movement with a dial indicator. your valves should be moving almost 0.550"
