Mercury Enertia Props - Experience with them?

My boat is an 18 1/2 ft Glastron. It came with a VP 5.7 litre with a 21in VP Aluminiun prop. I had been running a 20in Raker on my 18 ft with a 150 Johnson. I had the prop rerubbed so it would fit on the VP. I used that for 4 yrs. When the Enertia came out, I borrowed one from my dealer(his...

    1994 omc 5.0 ho 2 to 4 bbl swap

2 1/2 inch drop? Do you mean the carb is sitting 2 1/2 inches higher than when it was on the stock intake? Float is easy. Take the fuel bowl off, remove any baffle around the needle and seat. Invert the bowl and adjust the float so what is now the bottom of the float is parallel to the float bowl

    Engine Tuner vrs Carbon Guard

Carbon Guard was introduced to reduce the hard carbon buildup that started to appear in the first Ficht engines, Engine tuner was designed to soften carbon and burn/expel it. Using engine tuner on a Ficht, or other DFI engine can create problems. Non DFI engines were supplying fresh gas and oil...

Original Holley carb on 1983 ski centurion PCM 351w ???

That line you currently have running to the 'air cleaner', you say it goes to the fuel pump. Correct? Is it going to a barb type fitting? Marine engines don't have an air cleaner, they are required to have a flame arrestor, something that will quench or cool a flame so it can't ignite any gas...

Original Holley carb on 1983 ski centurion PCM 351w ???

It probably wasn't when it was original made. It does have the J style bowl vents, and hopefully the throttle body and throttle shafts were modified. Just one of the challenges when buying a rebuilt/remanufactured carb vs. a new carb. The OP is well aware he has no vacuum advance in his...

Original Holley carb on 1983 ski centurion PCM 351w ???

My mistake, I apologize. hmm two mistakes in a 24hr period.... "the nipple runs right into the top of the carb above one of the front barrels in the carb on the same side of the carb as the secondary vacuum assembly" The hose pointed to by the red arrow looks like, it is attached to a barb/...

    5.0 to Vortec 5.7 swap

Volvo makes a very nice 4bbl manifold for the Vortec V8. It would fit your crusier. My 5.7 Volvo came with it and used an adapter to mount a 500 cfm 2 bbl Holley. This carb is the perfect size for 305 turning 5000 rpm but falls a little short of what a 350 needs. I did buy a Holley 650 cfm...

    Bigger motor performance estimate?

We used to have two 14 foot car toppers, one with a 1979 25, the other a 1980 35. they went about 29 for the 25 and 32 for the 35. Our engines were crank rated, your 20 hp might be very close to our 25 in performance

Boat trailer needs help...boat PITA to load!

The boat needs to be farther forward, or the trailer needs to be longer so back rollers are under the transom. the two rollers under the keel are a concern if the rear one is too high. As for difficulty loading, if you back the trailer in too deep, the boat will never center correctly. My guess...

    Re-painting ol' scruffy - '82 90/140

I had an 82 140 back in 1982, I remember the color looking impressive. Boat was rated for a 90, so I stuck the 140 on it.

    Intake manifold issues

The valve( #51) would be down stream of the exhaust manifolds. The heat riser is a passage on the bottom of the intake. Exhaust would be free to travel from one side of the engine to the other, enormous back pressure doing so. Its purpose to heat the bottom of the intake manifold beneath the carb.

    Best Mercury Outboard Ever Made - 1984 50hp 4cyl

I'm not going to say they are the exact same engine, I don't know if the newer 75 has the power ported pistons the 85 had. There might also be some differences in the reed valving I don't think there is a 100lb difference between the 4 cylinder and the six, unless the 4 was manual tilt and the...

Best props to try before dropping big $

"Local marine shop says with my setup I can easily handle even a 28" Is he breathing thru the top of his head? Adding two inches should bring you in line with 4800. You mention tubing. A lot of people swear by the mercury High Five. Me, I swear by Mercury's Enertia, it has great acceleration...

    1969 Evinrude 40hp Lower Unit

In the top picture. the arrow with the circle, are there any holes there? and the arrow to the right in the picture, is that the idle relief hole? In the bottom pic I circled what at first looked like a passage, but the lighting is poor, it might just be a taper on the wall Careful with the...

    1969 Evinrude 40hp Lower Unit

Wow! You're learning just about everything you could ever learn about that engine design. Probably more than you wanted to know. I see you pulled the exhaust tube out. Yes clean all the carbon, it might reveal a clogged up passage. With the powerhead off you should be able to trace the path the...
