I could rebuild that motor with hardly a glance at a manual.-----I think you need to learn a wee bit of trouble shooting !----Good luck with it.----Note ---I own about 10 or 12 inline 6 Mercury motors.
You need new gears.----New bearings.----Need to figure out why or it will happen again.----I say look for a good used lower unit as that will save big $$----Is #34 still in the bearing housing ?
The VRO pump is quite good itself.----There are a number of issues.-----The early ones did not have a " no oil " warning.-----The early ones had an oil hose on the motor that started leaking air.------Rebuilt 2 or more motors myself because of that.----Saw the steel sleeve for oil piston loose...
It is likely a 2 stroke !-----If it was a 4 stroke with 90 PSI compression it might not run.----Or with humor it might not ---" get out of it's own way "-----Farming out a rebuild will be a shocking experience as far as beer tokens are concerned.
