    You have to realize that these smaller motors do not have an overheat alarm.-----They do not have a shutdown system.------They keep running till major damage occurs.-----A wise person would install a new one every 5 years.

    Do a spark intensity test.----Does spark jump a gap of 3/8" on both leads , yes or no ?

    A dealer uses the serial number to get the correct parts.----I would say it is a 1985 model.----A good Mercury dealer will help you with a repair kit.-----Amazon not so much.-----If you just bought it a new impeller must be installed.-----Post the compression values.---

    If I was running one of those it would be every 5 years.----But you should remove the lower unit to inspect / replace o-ring at top of driveshaft.-----Grease the splines.-----All very simple work.

    Condensers often test good on the MERC-O-TRONIC magneto analyzer.-----But fail when warmed up.----They are not big $$ and I say install fresh new ones.

    Some will argue.----If the leak got worse ,then the risk is water getting inside the motor via carburetors.-----That could reduce the motor to scrap.----So you need to repair that now , if not sooner.

    The timing fixture is nothing but a time saving shop tool.-----It is a " dummy flywheel "----If I do not have the timing fixture handy , I lift the flywheel on and off to set the points.
