    You should be pulling the drive every year for maintenance. Pull the drive and replace the fitting :)

    find the leak. if oil is leaking out, water is leaking in. potential leak spots that will get into the water stream and ultimately into the exhaust stream are Power Steering cooler and oil cooler drive oil would not mix with the exhaust. however leak externally. maybe a prop shaft leak.

    exhaust with unburnt oil is the number one cause of oil residue in a test tank water leaking means you have a problem you need to fix smokey exhaust because its a 2-stroke

    doing the transom from the outside is harder than the inside you are only a few hours of work away from just replacing with wood or Coosa, etc. did you check your stringers? normally they rot at same time as the transom.

    unless you add lifting strakes to the pontoon. you wont notice much between the 90 and 50 other than some noise and more fuel burn.
