    Loud noises usually mean trouble.-----Was gear oil low , yes or no ?-----If oil was low with shiny metal flakes or chunks of metal you have issues.

    Was it stored with fuel in the carburetors.-----Having to use choke clearly indicates carburetors need attention !!----I am quite sure it is NOT a reed valve issue.----They rarely fail !

    Marketing 101 and just a decal.----I think you will find that an 11 hp motor cab be marketed as a 9.9 and a 14.1 can be marketed as a 15 HP.

    Check for spark.----Spark must jump a gap of 3/8" or more on each lead.-----Perhaps test run with a portable tank and hose.

    The electric primer is a valve.----It is not a pump.-----When the engine is cranking and the key is pushed in ,the FUEL PUMP pushes fuel through the primer valve directly into the motor.-----In my opinion the VRO pump is very simple.----Easy to take apart for inspection / repair.

    Lower Unit Compatability

    As clearly state 76 and newer.----You can adapt the 1974 unit.----If bolted on it will shift to reverse when you select forward.----Somewhat inconvenient.----You would have to change linkages on the motor.-----And before you ask no there is nothing you can do in the control box !!

    Corrosion products form between the bushing and aluminum.-----Oxygen joins with the aluminum to form aluminum oxide ( white powder ) thus there is more material now ( oxygen ) and the works jams up !!
