    Agreed----Huge power loss in the jet pump.---EG-150 HP outboard is rated 105 HP to compensate and reduce complaints to the dealers.

    You can get into issues when lower units from different years are installed.--------Some used a woodruff key.----Some a round stainless pin.----And some used a plastic " wedge " key.-----Helps to know what is there and what years fit what.

    Gear oil coming out of the weep hole

    Oil that is mixed with the gas often leaks out of the exhaust housing.-----Causes great panic.-----The correct approach is to pressure test the gearcase to look for possible leaking seals.----And on a 45 year old motor it is a good idea to install a seal kit for peace of mind.-----Less trouble...

    Final Straw.

    The factory went to great effort to set all the linkages.------These things generally do not go out of adjustment.----Yet many folks use the ---" I will try to move this and see if it runs better " ---approach .-----Instead of some real trouble shooting.----Sorry, just my opinion.

    Chips in the gel coat on hull. Is it an issue?

    You mix up a wee batch -----make notes on the amount of color added.----Let it cure and see how it matches the hull.----When you are happy start the patching on the hull.

    8hp starts but runs only at high rpms

    There are very small passage ways in 4 stroke carburetors.----Often it takes a novice 3 or 4 attempts at cleaning to get the desired results.----Always store the motor with carburetor empty.----An empty carburetor does not plug up.

    Many of those simply used #30 weight motor oil.----Nothing exotic is needed.

    The little that I know of this club is that they had exclusive " local " information on the North Channel.----Such things as where the rock are or aren't in places that did not have good published charts----That was before electronic charts I believe.-----Best blueberry patches etc...

    Final Straw.

    And pumping the throttle handles means little as there are no accelerator pumps in carburetors.----You have verified that flywheel key is not sheared ?------Water pump impeller replaced ?-----The cylinder head was warped , so did you resurface / flatten it before installing with new gasket ?

    Obviously there is something else ( quick start ? ) wrong on the motor.----And why was it not made clear in post #1 that the primer has been replaced on this motor.-----Your mechanic should be able to figure out what is wrong with some simple trouble shooting.

    Well it sounds like the electric primer valve is working.-----There is a wee filter in the electric primer valve.---Have a look at it.----And perhaps look at other issues to do with starting.-----Battery load test.---Starter motor inspection.-----This should be easy to figure out !

    Are you pushing the key in while cranking the motor over , yes or no ?-----If you are running batteries dead I would also now look at doing an inspection of the starter.----Or test the function of the primer valve.----When motor is running and you push in the key what happens ?----Does motor...

    Mixing gas and oil at 50:1 or 4 stroke ?----Replaced water pump impeller recently or never ?---Pull starter apart for inspection.

    1996 Mercury 25hp shortshaft lower unit replacement

    Your local shop might assist in removing the propshaft bearing carrier.( left hand thread ) if you buy some oil maybe.-----No shimming needs to be done when changing out the propshaft.
