    The motor left the factory with a number of clips holding plug wires in place.----Normally the top plug wire goes to the top coil.----It does on all those V-4's that I have.

    Switch those wires as a test.----Normally top coil goes to top cylinder.------And no you can not do any damage if it is correct now !!

    It is very clear to me that folks do not know.-----Step # 1 for you is to compare the size of the CENTER main bearing to the main bearing on your motor.-------You will find that the 78 is much smaller and in 79 the V-4 motors went to the same MONSTER center bearing as used on the V-6...

    The 15" is a totally different midsection.----A totally different lower unit ( 50 hp ) meant for light fast boats.---That is why there are different part numbers.----Your is a 20" midsection.

    Just accept the fact that you have a 20" midsection and all the 20" midsection parts.-----There are lots of these brackets available used if you know how to look.-----Repeat you are looking for the 20" bracket to replace your broken one.

    There is more to one of these fine motors then a CARBURETOR REBUILD.----Post your compression numbers here.----And does spark jump a gap of 1/4" or more , yes or no ?----That spark test is done with a simples test device.---Has nothing to do with spark plug gap.----You are testing maximum output...

    ????----Just use regular 3/16 " ID hose for that lube recirculation line !!------No need for anything special at all.------Not sure where this ---" lack of pressure"---concept comes from.

    There are 2 different 90 hp model , yes there are.----Model # is ?----And the wires from top coil go to top cylinders.---That is if wires from powerpack are routed correctly.----What color stripe is on the orange wires.----I have a 2000 model 60 degree 90 HP on the bench right now.

    I think you will find that there is a reason for these cracks.----Structural damage I say.

    If you are in CANADA------evinrudepaarts.ca-----might be able to help.-----And that is a 20" bracket , these parts are NOT measured the way you are doing it !.

    The electric was last used in the 1972 models.------The 73 use oil pressure and a mechanical servo to make for near effortless shifting.----Compression test first on the motor.----New impeller before launching the boat.

    Some will argue.----You need to replace all 4.----The other 3 pistons are also ready to fail.----And putting new rings in worn ring grooves is also a mistake.

    9.5 1969-73 johnson air in fuel line

    Many different pumps will work on the 9.5 HP model.---The repair kit fits all those wee square pumps.----I just order the diaphragm by itself.----That is about the only item that can fail on these.

    You are looking at the nearly world famous ---BROKEN RING ---syndrome.----Every one of these motors will suffer the same fate as hours build up.----You need 4 O/S pistons and rings.----Lower unit inspection.---Carburetors.---Cooling system ETC.

    Nope---They stopped marketing Johnson in about 2007 ----Stopped Evinrude production last year.-----They are still supplying many parts for who knows how long.--- And that part is listed on another ( competitive ) site , a mere $30 for a new one.---Most shops might have a few of those laying...
