    Convertible Top

the convertible top is removed and stowed, usually behind the stern seat back if you want to keep it like a bimini, you should remove it and add a bimini. because if you tried to go fast with the top collapsed, it will come loose and bonk you on the head

    Vacuum Gauge Connection

I personally use an un-lit propane torch to set idle mixture. if introducing a bit of propane raises idle, your too lean, if adding just a bit of propane lowers the idle just a bit, your perfect.

Volvo Penta 280 verses 290 outdrive question.

so how are you getting 340hp out of a 350 with wet exhaust? if you are trying to run more than 270 degree duration on the cam, you will suffer reversion. the most I could ever get with a marine motor and naturally aspirated was about 330hp. to get more, have to jump to a 383 or larger stroker

    Vacuum Gauge Connection

If there is a port, it would be just aft of the carb on one of the runners. however I believe Mercruiser got rid of that port long ago. It is on the aftermarket intakes and the volvo intakes (edelbrock), however I believe not on the mercruiser intakes as they added threaded bosses for mounting...

    Gelcoat

I would get non-waxed until the last layer. in the summer, doubt you could move fast enough between coats to not have to sand with waxed gel.

    Engine is in, successful run?

boat could have been setup for high altitude with a 1.62 drive or it could have originally had a 5.0 as SeaRay often paired the 1.62 with a 5.0 easy to determine, pull plug wire, crank engine 10 revolutions, how many turns does the prop make? the 210 for 96-2002 and its smaller 190 sister...

Are Four Winns know to have strong hulls? Installing a tower

Fourwinns were not designed for the loads of towers. so you have to add reinforcing as needed. not sure backing plates will provide enough reinforcing just as an FYI, on my build, I added braces from the top of the gunwale down to the deck (and the top of my gunwales have 3/8" aluminum plates...

1995 Mercruiser 3.0 starter will not engage flywheel

clean every connection from the battery to the starter. by clean, use 150 grit sand paper or a wire brush on the cordless drill and clean them until they are shiny enough your mother would eat off them. if you come across a cable that is crunchy, throw it away then when every connection is...

Another blown head gasket - Fuel Mixture?

at 4600 RPM, the motor starts go come apart (literally, the deck starts to flex and the bolts start to loose clamp force) at 4800 RPM, the deck moves a bit more, the head bolts stretch a bit more, the head warps from the crappy design in cooling and the motor spits the head gaskets at 5500 RPM...

Mercury Carbureted vs Fuel injection timeline

if you look at overall carbon footprint at end of life (the only place it matters), a 1948 chevrolet pickup truck pulling a 18 foot wooden boat with a 75hp merc TOP spewing gas has a smaller carbon foot print over 74 years than a 10 year old prius pulling a row boat. and that truck is still...
