    your 1994 maxum should have about 1/8" or more of fiberglass over the wood core with gel coat under the carpet. the carpet should have been glued in with contact adhesive. so.... need pics of what you are dealing with. if you have wood directly under the carpet. someone else was in there...

    without pressure testing, you do not know if you have a cracked tube sheet or other problems that would cause the symptoms you are describing.

    agreed. bilge venting requirements have nothing to do with motor, motor size, induction system or brand. it has to do with bilge volume size

    exterior grade plywood can be used ~$40 a sheet. marine plywood can be used ~ $80 a sheet on top of that, you have all the other items and incidentals. the actual cost of the plywood is the cheap part. you should only need 1 sheet.

    as others stated, if you want to change it to a 85hp, change the rating system back from prop rating to flywheel rating. other than that, you either need more cubes or you need to look at building a custom engine with custom trumpet exhausts like the racing 1250BP's of the late 60's...
