Absolute Noob seeking advice and knowledge.

This line scares me the most. the motor stuff is easy. however the flooring being replaced is most likely a "deck over" where they simply slapped a new wood deck over the rotten floor, stringers, foam and transom. fiberglass boats from the 80's are notoriously bad with their initial build...

    Update Yamaha to NMEA

if your ECU doesnt support it, you can run an add-on gateway and run separate sensors for oil pressure and water temp. many ECU's dont like to share sensor signals.

    Update Yamaha to NMEA

if yamaha says no and your motor doesnt support NMEA 2000 backbone. your only other choice is to double up the engine sensors on the engine and add a NMEA 2000 engine gateway. or not go with NMEA gauges or sell your motor and buy a newer one

ENGINE SWAP built 383 in and stock 454 out

define healthy, especially the cam card and the compression. what works well for a hot rod, really sucks for a boat motor. think less hot-rod, and more dump truck pulling a trailer up-hill in 4th gear in sand. most hot-rod cams will suck water in on a boat. anything over 270 degrees of...

you do know that free boats are the most expensive boats on the planet. they usually require spending 2-3 times what one should spend to restore a boat because they usually are too far gone.
