    It has a Positive Temperature coefficient of resistance. The hotter it gets higher the resistance.

    I made my motors connecting rod a quick disconnect. By using standard sized male and female airline connectors.

    New sudden problem ? Have you tried adjusting idle speed and idle mixture screws ?

    20 years ago I would tilt the motor up and idle 1/2 mile into the base of a small natural 6' high waterfall area. Unreal area. With every type & size of fish. Hard to not do what makes us happy. :)

    boat foam?

    I use closed cell foam sheets from H D and Lowes for decades. Cheap and cuts easily on the table saw or Jig Saw.

    After 3 years the copper in the battery cable actually corroded away to causing intermittent slow starts.
